In-Classroom Primary Assistant

Position Summary

In general, the Primary Assistant must set an example for the students, both in conduct and in presentation, in accordance with the rules of the Lycée Français de New York. They must also be reliable and punctual as they play a key role in the function of the preschool. Additionally, patience and understanding is essential for working with young children. To account for certain organizational demands, the Primary Assistant must show flexibility in their schedule, in order to respond to occasional unexpected circumstances during the day. They may also be required to attend after school meetings, if necessary.

The Primary Assistant main responsibilities are as defined as ensuring the students’ safety at all times and enforcing rules and regulations. The Primary Assistant will be assigned one main class with teachers and students to work with. However, depending on the needs of the primary school, they may be reassigned to a different class/duty for a short or longer period of time.

Team spirit is key, as the Primary Assistant works as a team with the teachers, the administration, and the other assistants. Primary Assistants need to use open and honest communication to ensure a healthy working team. The ability to get along with diverse personalities is a necessary skill. All employees are strongly encouraged to work towards proficiency in both French and English languages and to develop a familiarity and understanding of the Lycée's multicultural environment. At the Lycée, all employees should truly and enthusiastically believe in the School’s Mission, supporting the vision of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. They are expected to provide encouragement, offer positive reinforcement, and show respect for each student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Unless otherwise specified all duties must be performed in person, on campus, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. Work schedule is based on students' schedule and may be adjusted from time to time by the Lycée in accordance with its needs.
