We are currently looking for individuals to join our Fabrication team: Draftsman - Engineering Drafter Position Summary: The Engineering Drafter plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by creating and maintaining accurate CAD models and engineering drawings. This position works closely with the shop manager and fabricators to translate design intent into detailed, production-ready documentation. The position will work under the supervision of the Fabrication Shop Manager but will require taking direction from other Smart Sand managers. This position is based primarily at our Oakdale, WI facility. Key Responsibilities: Translate rough dimensional sketches and OE components into fabrication drawings Maintain strict revision control and document updates Coordinate with project managers and production teams Ensure accuracy and constructability of all drawings Generate BOMs Other duties as assigned Create, revise, and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings Ensure drawings comply with company standards and manufacturing capabilities Manage and execute engineering change requests (ECRs), including: Updating CAD models, drawings, and BOMs Tracking implementation and ensuring timely completion Identify opportunities for drawing standardization, process improvement, and cost reduction Required Qualifications: Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology, related field, or equivalent experience Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) Understanding of 2D drawings, dimensioning, and tolerancing principles Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering, management and fabricators. 2+ years of experience in an engineering drafting or design support role, preferably in metal fabrication. Experience with sheet metal, weldments, mechanical assemblies Understanding of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, forming, and assembly Competencies: Coordinate across disciplines (Architectural, Structural, Civil, MEP) Strong attention to detail Communication and teamwork Problem solving mindset CAM experience a plus Benefits: At Smart Sand, we offer a cutting-edge work environment, competitive wages, and a comprehensive benefits package!
