Supply Technician

Summary This position serves as Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. The role provides wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including sterile and non‑sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment. Qualifications Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date (07/13/2026). Time‑In‑Grade: Current federal employees with GS grades held in the past 52 weeks must meet time‑in‑grade requirements. For a GS‑05 position, 52 weeks at GS‑04 is required. Certified SF‑50 must be submitted. Applicants must also meet one‑year specialized experience equivalent to GS‑04 if not using education or a combination. Specialized experience includes providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex healthcare facility; scanning, bar‑coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas according to aseptic principles; using an automated inventory system; and answering customer questions regarding supplies and materials. Education: A four‑year degree above high school (any field) from an accredited institution may substitute for the required experience. Transcripts are required. Combination: Applicants may combine education with experience, but must have a combination of specialized experience and at least 60 semester hours (2 years). Physical requirements: The work requires standing, walking, frequent reaching, bending, and lifting supply packages (occasionally 50 pounds). Loading carts up to 100+ pounds may be required. Proper assistance allows moving heavier items (>40 pounds). Note: OPM guidelines can be reviewed at . Duties Pull stock inventory and material for delivery. Replenishes stock inventory. Interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels. Communicates to lead or supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures. Provides information to customers regarding medical supplies. Monitors expiration dates and rotates stock to limit outdates; removes items from use as required. Monitors and controls critical supplies. Performs daily inventory using barcoding equipment on a predetermined schedule to allow timely replenishment. Resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Distributes items according to established or ad‑hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems. Delivers supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are sterile and in operational condition. Completes specialty cart preparation. Cleans assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles. Receives supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area.
