The Allentown Parking Authority works to balance the parking needs of residents, employees, business and property owners, and visitors while enforcing parking ordinances and providing appropriate access to parking.The Fleet Mechanic is an Essential Employee who ensures the safety, functionality, and efficiency of the Allentown Parking Authority's fleet by performing regular maintenance, diagnostics, and minor repairs. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with safety standards. This role involves preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, State Safety inspections, and keeping accurate maintenance records. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced with a variety of vehicles and equipment. The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Manager/Supervisor of Maintenance.Essential FunctionsPerform routine maintenance on fleet vehicles including oil changes, tire rotations and/or changes, fluid checks, brake inspections, and tune-ups.Replace and service belts, hoses, windshield wipers, lights, and other consumables.Conduct system flushes (coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc.) as required. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems and perform repairs as needed.Conduct safety inspections and ensure all vehicles comply with DOT, and company safety standards.Collaborate with Facilities, Enforcement & Management to identify vehicle issues and schedule maintenance to minimize downtime.Investigate vehicle operator complaints and perform necessary inspections and repairs.Conduct test drives to verify repairs and ensure vehicle safety and performance.Maintain detailed records of repairs, service schedules and parts inventory using maintenance software or logs.Respond to emergency roadside service calls and coordinate towing when required.Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.Ensure proper functioning of shop tools and request repairs or replacements as needed.Monitor inventory levels of tools and supplies; initiate reorders as necessary.Stay current on industry best practices, equipment technology, and regulatory requirements.Responsible for front line snow removal operationsSafely operate and maintain snow removal equipment, including plows, snow blowers, and salt spreadersMaintain and service snow removal equipment to ensure it is in good working orderAt times may be required to perform general maintenance dutiesPerform all other duties as assignedHours of Work – 8am to 4:30pm; hours may vary based on operational needStarting Pay Rate: $26.50 per hour ($0.50 increase available after introductory period)Available benefits include Health/Dental/Vision insurance, Flexible Spending, Paid Time Off, Retirement Benefits, and Life InsuranceThe Allentown Parking Authority is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, marital status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical certification ASE required.3+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair (diesel, gas, and light to heavy-duty trucks preferred).Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, electrical systems, and brake systems.Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.Proficient in general office and computer applications i.e. (Microsoft Office 360)Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and record in compliance with requirements established by the company's auto insurance providerAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy parts and equipment (up to 100 lbs) and Push (up to 200 lbs).Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or on-call as needed.Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditionsAvailability during all snowstorms to work up to 16 hours of labor-intensive workEmployee is an Essential Employee and is required to report to work and work outside in all weather conditionsPersonal AttributesA positive attitude with a focus on community well-beingEmpathy and patience in dealing with diverse populationsA commitment to fairness and integrity in all actionsStrong work ethicWork Environment:Primarily in a shop or garage setting with occasional work outdoors or roadside.Exposure to various weather conditions, mechanical hazards, fumes, and noise.Must be available for Emergency response and snow removal duties.This position is considered Essential Personnel.
