Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acute care and be proficient in EPIC charting.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience with at least 6 months of recent Level 1 trauma experience or experience in a larger facility (400+ beds) with high acuity patients.
• Proficient in EPIC charting; no training will be provided during orientation.
• At least one completed travel assignment is highly preferred but not mandatory.
• FLU vaccination is mandatory; medical accommodations may be requested with a note from a physician.
• FBI fingerprinting is required, which can be completed either in person or remotely.

Unit Details

The Med/Surg units consist of:

• 2 West: 13 beds
• 6 West: 14 beds
• 7 South: 12 beds
• 4 Wiser: 30 beds
• 5 Wiser: 25 beds

Nurse Responsibilities

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5, adjusted to 1:6 based on patient acuity.
• Common patient diagnoses include general med-surg, congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical care, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, gastroparesis, and respiratory illnesses.
• The RN will titrate heparin drips and monitor patients as required.
• All units have telemetry capability, with ongoing patient monitoring.
• Charge nurses will take lighter patient assignments but will manage full loads when necessary.
• Assistance from nurse aids and respiratory technicians is available for equipment support (e.g., CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, vents).

Shift Requirements

• Shifts are 12 hours long, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM.
• Self-scheduling is not available; travelers are generally expected to fill scheduling gaps.
• Every other weekend or two weekends per month commitment is standard, with flexibility depending on department needs.
• Holidays will be rotated with the regular staff.

Orientation

During the first day of orientation, all necessary paperwork and system logins will be completed, followed by a unit tour and discussions regarding scheduling. The orientation will also include two additional shifts with a preceptor.

Professional Attire

Nursing staff are expected to wear solid, professional-colored scrubs.

Additional Information

All staff are expected to float between units according to their skillset, with higher acuity patients assigned to core staff. The nursing management team is available during business hours, and weekend coverage is provided by an adult house supervisor.
