Orthopedic Trauma - Full time NP/PA

Department: 02408 GCMG Ortho Trauma: CMC - Surgery: Orthopedics | Status: Full time | Hours per week: 40 | Pay range: $47.50 - $71.25 per hour. Our orthopedic trauma team at Atrium Health’s Musculoskeletal Institute (MSKI) is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Trauma Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to work in both hospital and clinic settings in beautiful Charlotte, North Carolina. The APP will collaborate with the trauma team and attending orthopedic trauma surgeon to deliver high‑level patient care. Responsibilities Evaluate emergency department and inpatient orthopedic consults, including history, physical exam, ordering and reviewing diagnostic studies, and coordinating with on‑call orthopedic surgeon. Perform procedures such as local wound care, suturing, bedside I&Ds, traction pin placement, arthrocentesis, joint/trigger point injections, closed reductions, and splint/cast application. Assist in scheduling and coordination of surgical treatments for trauma patients, including obtaining consent and posting surgical procedures. Provide assistance in the operating room and facilitate patient throughput for emergent and elective cases when needed. Perform coding and billing for consultations and procedures performed. Facilitate discharge and disposition of trauma patients, working closely with social work, clinical case managers, and other consultant teams. Collaborate with medical learners—orthopedic residents, fellows, and medical students—and participate in quality control initiatives. Work autonomously in an independent clinic or shared orthopedic trauma faculty clinic, managing office visits, consultations, and procedures. Qualifications Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina. For Nurse Practitioners: Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Registered Nurse license, national certification in practice area, and Acute Care board certification. For Physician Assistants: Graduate from an accredited PA program (Master’s preferred), national certification preferred, eligibility for DEA license, prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC. Current BLS for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, valid for at least 90 days. Experience in orthopedics preferred.
