Associate Biologist On-Call

We are seeking an Associate Biologist On-Call to provide responsive biological support across field, laboratory, and operational activities. This role is suited to an early-career scientist who can work reliably under changing priorities, respond to urgent requests, and contribute to the safe and accurate delivery of biological investigations. The successful candidate will support routine and non-routine sampling, specimen handling, biological assessments, data collection, and technical reporting in accordance with approved procedures and relevant regulatory requirements. Key responsibilities include participating in scheduled and emergency on-call rotations; preparing equipment, materials, and documentation for field or laboratory assignments; collecting, labelling, transporting, and processing biological samples; conducting observations, measurements, and basic analyses; maintaining accurate electronic and written records; and promptly escalating unusual findings, safety concerns, or quality issues. You will assist with the maintenance, calibration, and safe use of laboratory and field equipment, contribute to quality assurance activities, and help prepare summaries, reports, and technical information for internal and external stakeholders. The role may involve work outdoors, travel to operational sites, irregular hours, and responding at short notice, including evenings, weekends, or public holidays. Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in biology, ecology, environmental science, zoology, microbiology, or a related discipline, together with practical experience gained through study, placement, laboratory work, fieldwork, or a comparable technical setting. You will need sound biological knowledge, strong attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to follow procedures while exercising appropriate judgement. The role requires effective teamwork, physical capability for field activities, confidence working independently, and a commitment to health, safety, confidentiality, and professional standards. A current driving licence, willingness to complete relevant training, and flexibility to participate in an on-call rota may be required. EWI Recruitment
