This is more than a job; it’s an opportunity to make a profound impact on countless lives. Work Hours: Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, with typical shifts between 08:00-20:00. Work hours can vary by service area and due to fluctuations in donor activity. Assigned day and/or shift can be altered according to staffing needs. Registered Nursing staff must be available evenings, holidays, and weekends as required, and includes working overtime as approved and required. Work Setting: In-person Summary of Functions Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Practice – Provision of professional nursing care with donors and families Systematically assess the needs of the donor through observation and physical assessment. Skillfully use the range of equipment, medication and other modalities, such as CPR, as well as the procedural and educational resources pertinent to assigned work area. Demonstrate knowledge of purpose and expected outcomes. Hemodynamic monitoring, medication compounding and administration. Routine lab drawings and point of care testing. General bedside nursing care. Establish and enhance relationships with donor families visiting at either OneLegacy facility in conjunction with the assigned PTC and Family Support Services. Access and review the referring hospital’s medical records charts. Transcribe appropriate information to digitalDONOR fields per OneLegacy policies and practices. Consult with assigned PTC and intensivist team to evaluate current organ function and identify early stages of medical derangements and current organ function. Formulate a treatment plan in conjunction with the assigned PTC and at the direction of the Medical Director of Organ procurement. Advocate on behalf of potential donors and their families for interventions needed to preserve the opportunity for donation and optimize organ function. Perform administrative duties regarding the patient, such as completing digitalDONOR charting, as well as any other forms or documentation required per OneLegacy documentation policies. Maintain established policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control. OneLegacy Recovery Center Responsibilities: The Registered Nurse will maintain proficiency and competency in all organ operations at the OneLegacy’s Recovery Center, Appendix A. Personnel Functions Maintain professional conduct at all times with both internal and external customers. Cooperate with other personnel to achieve company objectives and maintain good employee, interdepartmental and public relations. Meet with and solicit advice from the Medical Director(s), Director of Organ Clinical Operations, Supervisor, Donor Management, SOP (Supervisor on call), OTL (Organ Team Lead), Transplant Centers, Attending Physicians, and Nursing Staff concerning donor patient care. Maintain an effective and friendly working relationship with health professionals, physicians, consultants and family members involved in every donation process. Work Schedule Responsibility Shares schedule responsibility with other assigned Registered Nurses (One shift per pay period minimum requirement). Additional work time and shifts are assigned, as needed, to uphold OneLegacy’s mission. Gives verbal report to oncoming OneLegacy staff when assignment is completed. Carries OneLegacy issued electronic devices and appropriate case materials on scheduled work shifts and ensures that all equipment is working properly. Enables and ensures location services on OneLegacy issued devices work properly during scheduled shifts. Other Responsibilities Stays professionally current as required for assigned job function, certification or licensure. Complies with all UNOS policies, standards and requirements. Attends staff meetings and scheduled trainings unless on call or post-call. Supports the organization’s Standards of Professional Conduct as outlined in OneLegacy Policies and Procedures and is the example of OneLegacy’s mission, vision and values. Observes a code of ethics that requires truthfulness, honesty and personal integrity in all activities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise initiative, judgment and make decisions within the scope of assigned authority. Ability to keep accurate records, perform statistical analyses and interpret data. Keyboarding skills for using a personal computer. Interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with all levels of management, staff, medical professionals, hospital staff and to work within the individual guidelines of OneLegacy affiliated community donor hospitals, organ transplantation centers, eye and tissue banks. Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to include the ability to make public presentations. Instructional skills in written and verbal form. Ability to perform patient transfers and heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to function as an effective and competent team member. Maintain confidentiality of all information pertinent to organ, eye and tissue donors and recipients, OneLegacy staff, OneLegacy affiliated donor hospitals and affiliated processors. Job Qualifications Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Experience: Emergency department and critical care. Minimum of 2 years of experience Certification/License: Current Nursing license and associated critical care certifications. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required at the time of employment. Required to be Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified within the employee’s orientation period. OneLegacy requires employees to maintain a current California driver’s license. Equipment: Must be able to use office equipment, including personal computer, fax machine, calculator, photocopier/scanner, cell phone and audio/visual equipment.
