We care for all post-operative cardiac surgical patients as well as critically ill children with complex cardiac disease needing medical ICU management. We also care for newborns directly from birth who have a known cardiac defect or cardiac medical issue./ppThe CVICU strives for a culture of learning and compassion. Our team consists of the CVICU nurses, our CVICU Intensivist, CVICU unit techs, NPs, PAs, Cardiologists, Pharmacists as well as all the team members who touch the same patients within the Riley Heart Center (Cardiac Step-Down Unit, Cath Lab, Cardiac OR, Echo, Telemetry)./ppOur patient population consists of a wide range of ages including newborns up to adults. Our nursing staff develops and maintains an extensive clinical skillset and cares for patients requiring advanced respiratory support, continuous dialysis, continuous inotropic medications, heart transplantation, and mechanical cardiac assist devices such as ECMO and VAD./ppShift: Part Time, Shifts Available- Nights/ppNursing skills gained on this unit:/pulliCaring for complex patients with multiple central access, intracardiac lines, ventilators, multiple medications and drains./liliLearn to Cardiovert, Defibrillate and Administer medication to stabilize heart rhythms/liliPALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support/liliCaring for multiple VADs (Ventricular Assist Devices)/liliLearn Dialysis (Prisma and Aquadex)/liliThe opportunity to learn ECMO and become part of the team as well/li/ulpUnit Successes/Designations:/pulliSTS 3 STAR Cardiac program, 3-STAR is the highest ranking you can receive./liliConsistently ranked in the US World News Report/lili#5 Pediatric Cardiac Program in the country, and #1 Pediatric Cardiac Program in the Midwest./liliRed Shoe award recipients and Daisy Award winners./lili2 Margaret Martin Award winners on our staff/liliNurses who are certified in CCRN, CPN, and Lactation/li/ulpQualifications:/pulliRequires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred./liliRequires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license./liliRequires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience.
