Registered Nurse - TelemetryThis is a float pool position based in a telemetry unit. The nurse will be required to float to other facilities as needed. The telemetry unit has 31 beds. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. Electronic medical records are managed using Cerner. There will always be a charge nurse or resource RN available. Nurse aides are present, typically 2 for day shifts and 1 for night shifts, depending on census. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Holidays are also required, including one major and one minor holiday. Scrubs must be navy in color. Telemetry monitoring is done using Phillips equipment. Nurses are responsible for reading telemetry strips and signing off on them. Common drips administered include amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin. Titration is not required for these drips. Nurses will not work with ventilators but may use BiPAP or CPAP. A hospitalist and intensivist are available on-site. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Nurses will float to various units, including telemetry and med-surg. Each nurse will receive an orientation specific to each unit. Patients commonly present with high acuity conditions such as pneumonia, end-stage renal disease, and respiratory distress. Nurses should possess a positive attitude and compassion for patient care.
