Preschool Educational Diagnostician

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Preschool Educational Diagnostician is responsible for conducting comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluations of preschool-aged children to determine developmental functioning, eligibility for special education services, and appropriate instructional supports. This position serves as the lead evaluator in the multidisciplinary assessment process for children ages 3-5. This role involves collaboration with families, educators, community agencies, and related service providers to ensure early identification and intervention aligned with federal, state, and local regulations. All evaluations and processes must align with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), including Child Find and transition from Part C to Part B services. This position reports to the Director of the Department of Exceptional Students or Designated Supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Conduct standardized and non-standardized assessments in areas of early childhood development including cognitive, academic readiness, adaptive behavior, communication, motor development, and social-emotional functioning. Serve as lead evaluator and coordinate multidisciplinary team assessments.

Interpret assessment data and present findings to IEP teams to be used in the determination of eligibility for special education services (e.g., developmental delay, autism, speech-language impairment).


Develop integrated evaluation reports that clearly communicate findings, educational implications, and recommendations. Coordinate and complete comprehensive eligibility reports in compliance with federal and state requirements. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including eligibility, Individualized Education Program (IEP), and transition planning meetings.


Collaborate with families to gather developmental histories, communicate evaluation results clearly, and provide guidance on next steps and available services.


Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., IDEA) regarding timelines, procedures, and documentation. Maintain all required federal, state, and district timelines for evaluation completion and documentation. Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant records of assessments and student data.


Provide consultation to early childhood educators and service providers regarding instructional strategies, behavioral support, and developmentally appropriate strategies and accommodations. Serve as a resource to preschool special education staff.


Support transition planning from early intervention (Part C) to preschool services (Part B). Support Child Find activities through screening and developmental assessments.


Engage in ongoing professional development related to early childhood assessment and intervention practices. Engage in all required professional learning from the Department of Exceptional Students.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor's degree required in Educational Diagnostician, School Psychology, Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or a closely-related field. Early Childhood Special Education preferred.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an educational setting. Three (3) years of experience in early childhood education, preschool assessment, or special education evaluation preferred.

The diagnostician work significantly influences the integrity of eligibility determinations and the development of highquality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Inaccurate or delayed evaluations may result in misclassification, inappropriate service delivery, or denial of necessary supports, thereby exacerbating developmental gaps. Conversely, well-executed evaluations promote equitable access to services and alignment between student needs and instructional interventions.


The diagnostician collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams fosters informed decision-making and strengthens trust in the evaluation process. Clear communication of assessment findings enhances caregiver engagement and supports the implementation of consistent strategies across home and educational environments. The Preschool Educational Diagnostician actions shape both individual student outcomes and broader program effectiveness, reinforcing the foundational goal of early intervention: to mitigate developmental delays and promote long-term academic and functional success. This role directly supports equitable access to early intervention services and improved long-term student outcomes.


A valid Georgia Educational Certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in assigned field as required in Education, Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or Psychology


Applies professional judgment in selecting and administering appropriate assessment tools. Interprets complex developmental data to support eligibility decisions. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and procedures. Consults with other professionals as needed and required.

Collaborates with special education staff, related service providers, school administrators, and district personnel.

Communicates with families, community agencies, Babies Can't Wait and early intervention providers.

Demonstrates strong organization, time management, and coordination of multidisciplinary evaluation processes.

Utilizes district systems (e.g., GO-IEP, student information systems) and digital assessment platforms. Knowledge Microsoft Word and other digital applications.


Responsibility for the Welfare of Others: Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


May require travel between school sites and community centers or other evaluation locations.

Requires direct interaction with young children and families in assessment settings.


Requires routine physical activity, including sitting on the floor, engaging with young children, and administering assessments
