San Marcos Facilities Services Full-Time Permanent $2,907.00 - $3,115.00 Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position. Ability to communicate, receive and assign instructions, direct work, recognize and change priorities. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to determine acceptable work quality and quantity. Ability to work independently and in a team environment to handle complex projects, prioritize and manage multiple tasks under deadlines. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., and perform strenuous physical duties for an entire shift. Ability to work outdoors in extreme and varying weather conditions. Ability to operate industry equipment for extended periods. Knowledge and application of safety practices related to job duties, and safe use of industry related equipment. Ability to perform Job Hazard Analysis. A commitment to quality, customer service, personal development and safety. Must have two years of tree pruning experience Must be able to attain ISA arborist certification within one year of hire. Must be able to attain TDA pesticide applicator’s license within one year of hire. Preferred Qualifications Basic knowledge of horticulture and ornamental plant materials, including trees and utilizing the proper grounds operations equipment required to maintain their growth habits and needs. Basic knowledge of proper pesticide use. Knowledge of invasive plant species in our area. Job Description The Habitat Conservation Technician helps protect some of the University’s most sensitive and valuable resources, its tree canopy. Monitoring the health and safety of Texas State University’s tree canopy, performing hazard and risk assessments for both pedestrian traffic and property. Maintain our tree inventory identifying replacement needs as trees are removed for construction, health, or risk. Research, design, plan, and perform duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of invasive species using various disciplines and industry accepted best management practices. Sustainably improve, manage, and protect Texas State University’s landscape natural resources creating a comfortable and safe environment in which to learn. Job Duties The Habitat Conservation Technician’s duties include monitoring the health of Texas State University’s tree canopy and potential tree hazards on campus. Perform pruning of immature trees to guide growth, reducing future potential hazards and improving aesthetic form. Perform pruning for safe visibility, line of sight and lighting clearance. Monitor and maintain invasive species on campus properties. Plan and host Arbor Day events and other arboriculture educational opportunities. Maintain the University’s tree inventory, updating removals and additions.
