Under direct supervision, the Material Handler 1 operates forklifts or other mobile equipment to perform routine moving, staging, loading or unloading of materials, supplies or products within or near plant, yard, warehouse or work site.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

• Transports raw materials, supplies, products and/or finished goods to and from storage or production lines and places them in designated area (80%)
• Actively participates in continuous improvement and corrective action activities (10%)
• Completes all necessary paperwork and transactions, including scanning requirements (5%)
• Performs housekeeping, 5-S, and other duties as assigned (5%)

Key measures:

• Safety/Hazard Reporting and Safety Observations
• Attendance
• Productivity – Timely completion of customer orders
• Quality / Claims – Ensure accuracy in all job functions to avoid Quality Claims
• On Time Delivery – Ensure accuracy in all job functions to meet On Time Delivery expectations
• Conversion Costs – Effective and efficient use of company resources to reduce operations costs

Tools required:

• Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as outlined in the role specific Job Safety Analysis
• Forklift, Combi-lift, Side-loader, or other mobile equipment
• Computers
• Scanners, tablets, printers
• Oracle ERP
• Hand tools including, but not limited to, nail gun, banding equipment, hammer, saw, etc.

Education & experience qualifications:

• Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent, or attain ACT WorkKeys Assessment at certified job profile skill level
• Preferred: 3+ months of experience operating mobile equipment in a manufacturing or shipping environment
• Mobile equipment certification

• Basic computer skills

• Detail oriented – ensures accuracy of product and documentation to meet internal and/or external customer demands

• Mobile equipment operations skills

Working conditions & physical/mental demands:

• Customer contact: Extensive client contact, visibility, interaction, and exposure. May be required to host clients (existing or potential) and/or speak to senior level executives.
• Deadlines: Work assignments are typically deadline driven
• Equipment usage: Computer usage may be required up to 90 percent of the time and include heavy periods of keyboarding, repetitive motion, and/or eye strain
• Equipment usage: May operate high cost equipment using cutting edge-technology; may operate equipment with safety hazards (e.g., sharp edges, heat, etc.)
• Equipment usage: Safety equipment or protective gear is required as necessary (e.g., insulated gloves, protective eye wear, hearing protection, safety belts, hard hat, fall restraint, arm guards, weld hood, safety shoes)
• Equipment usage: Will be required to utilize various hand-held tools and equipment (e.g., hammers, welders, saws, drill, drill press, cutting torches, hand trucks, etc.)
• Hazardous chemicals: May work with industrial products and chemicals and be exposed to hazardous chemicals, fumes, and/or airborne particles
• Hazardous energy: May be exposed to lethal stored energy sources including mechanical and up to 100 volts of electrical current
• Hearing: Ability to distinguish sounds is required for safety purposes. Being hearing impaired may be life threatening in the environment.
• Physical activity: May be required to lift, carry, and/or move equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
• Physical activity: May be required to stand or walk up to 80 percent of the time, including long durations of standing or walking up to 8 to 10 hours daily
• Physical activity: Some work may be repetitive, which may include repetitive physical motion
• Physical activity: Use of hands and fingers required to pinch, pick, and feel objects, tools and/or controls
• Physical activity: Work requires continuous mental attention and high alertness

• Reading: Significant reading in English required via Internet and/or bound volumes
• Sedentary work: Work may be sedentary or desk bound
• Speaking: May be required to conduct presentations, facilitate training, and/or speak in front of large groups of people

• Training & Certification: Continuing education sessions and seminars may be required to maintain appropriate licensure, certifications, and level of technical proficiency. This may include completing programs that require passing scores on exams/exercises to maintain employment and/or vendor certifications.
• Travel - Local: Travel to other local business locations may be required and include driving a personal or company vehicle as necessary
• Vision: Good close vision required for viewing paper copies and/or computer screens
• Vision: Required to distinguish colors on monitoring equipment, paper copy, computer screen, or for safety purposes where vision impairment may be life threatening
• Work hours: May be required to work non-traditional business hours to accommodate various testing activities, implementations, conversions, projects, business contingencies, availability of work or resources, network or system application failures, etc.
• Work hours: May be required to work outside of normally scheduled hours as mandated by the client, project, and/or work load including overtime with minimal notification (e.g., evenings, weekends, and/or holidays)
• Work hours: On-call support may be required and may include 24x7 coverage
• Work hours: Scheduled work hours, including rotating shifts, may vary to support a 24x7 operation (e.g., early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, etc.)
