Senior Staff Software Engineer

Becton Dickinson seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer to develop embedded software for medical devices across acute care, home care, and targeted temperature management portfolios. The role combines hands-on technical contribution with cross-functional collaboration, regulatory compliance, and mentorship within a matrix environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead or substantially contribute to software architecture, design, implementation, and integration for embedded medical devices
• Develop embedded firmware and platform-level software including RTOS applications, drivers, protocols, and diagnostics
• Create software lifecycle deliverables including requirements, design documentation, test evidence, and risk controls
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across marketing, systems, quality, regulatory, cybersecurity, and external partners
• Mentor engineers, support field issues and audits, and communicate technical risks and recommendations to stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
• 8+ years professional software development experience
• Medical device or regulated, safety-critical product development experience
• Strong embedded C/C++ development with RTOS, microcontrollers, and hardware-software interfaces
• Controlled product lifecycle experience including requirements, design, verification, configuration management
• Working knowledge of design controls, IEC 62304, and software risk management
