Direct Support Professional III (16826) Posting ID 16826 – Posted – Health & Human Services Comm – Pacific – Residential Care – Healthcare Support – Corpus Christi State Supported Living Center – Not Eligible for Telework – $3000 - $4999 per month Salary Range: $3,649.83–$4,594.50 per month Job Overview Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as a Direct Support Professional III. In this role you will help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems in a state‑owned facility. This position is available for Morning, Evening and Night shifts on multiple homes. It may be eligible to earn additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights and/or weekends. The position may require overtime, extended hours, weekends and holidays. Flexibility may also be required for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activation. The DSP III works as part of a team that helps residents achieve their goals by providing routine and emergency care, treatment, and training in various settings. Duties include grooming, bathing, feeding, lifting and positioning, medication administration, observation, reporting, meaningful interaction, and participation in individualized training or active treatment programs. The DSP documents care details and assists new DSPs with training and mentorship. Essential Job Functions Attends work on a regular schedule; may work a specific, rotating, extended shift or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy. Provides direct care and support services, including habilitation, rehabilitation, behavior management, crisis intervention, meals, and individualized training programs. Encourages participation in activities. Implements PBSPs, CIPs, SAPs and other behavior plans to teach skills such as feeding, dressing, personal hygiene and independence. Documents resident participation and progress for effective communication with staff and supervisory visits. Assists with healthcare needs; observes for signs of illness or medication reaction; provides first aid and CPR as needed; reports significant changes to appropriate personnel. Assists in transporting residents to scheduled activities or emergencies; ensures safety and necessary information. Maintains safe environment: correct hazards, implement infection control, report abuse/neglect, follow procedures for abnormal incidents. Evacuates residents during emergencies; completes required documentation afterward. Provides behavior intervention and prevents aggressive behavior; administers CPR in emergency situations. Maintains compliance with HHS standards for competency, training and development. Provides guidance to new DSPs; mentors staff; may volunteer as shift/team lead when DSP IV Lead/Charge is not on duty. Other duties: disaster response, COOP activation, alternate shift pattern assignment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of individual care techniques, treatment and therapy programs; willing to learn through training. Ability to read, write, speak English. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in clear, concise manner; make decisions and use good judgment in critical incidents. Ability to react quickly and calmly during emergencies. Ability to demonstrate proper body mechanics, posture, and lifting techniques. Ability to provide individual care including first aid, CPR, and safe use of restraints. Ability to train, mentor, and coach others. Ability to work effectively with others as a team member. Ability to perform basic techniques of individual care and training. Ability to be flexible with work assignments. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days after hire. Out‑of‑state driver’s license holders must provide an original certified driving record from the state of licensure. Certification in CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and/or Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) is preferred. Initial Screening Criteria Required: High School diploma, GED, or 6 months of work experience. Preferred: Six (6) months of experience working with people who have mental health or intellectual developmental disabilities. Experience as a DSP. Experience implementing behavior programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities. Experience writing reports. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks, including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
