Medical Assistant II

General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety ofclinical duties, clerical tasks, and other tasks assigned by the clinical administrator orsupervising physician.Essential Job Responsibilities:1. Rooms patients during the clinic.2. Perform all necessary inhouse testing prior to the physician seeing the patient,which include UA Dip, bladder ultrasound, uroflows.3. Nurse schedule as assigned: Catheter removals, catheter changes, BCGinstillations, DMSO installations, Urocuff studies, bladder ultrasounds, other scheduleresponsibilities4. Prep’s and assists physicians with in-office procedures.5. Performs clerical duties related to clinical services including appointmentscheduling, returning messages for patients as requested by physicians.6. Fills out FMLA or disability paperwork for assigned physicians.7. Performs medical receptionist duties as necessary. Answers telephone, screenscalls, takes messages, work on incoming faxes, take payments and provides information.8. Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and provides support services topatients and medical staff.9. Obtains prior authorization for ordered imaging and prescriptions.10. Checks physician voicemail 2-3 times daily11. Assists teams’ scribe with prescription refill request.12. Work with the team's scribe to address physician’s telephone encounters, anddocuments.13. Perform daily assigned tasks related to JCAHO or CLIA compliance.14. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the clinical area as assigned bythe clinical supervisor. Clinical area including exam rooms, procedure rooms, patientrestrooms, lab, and instrument cleaning area.15. Train and onboard new Medical Assistants.16. Help identify key opportunities for improvement for process, training, onboardinggaps, etc.17. Help design and implement regular train activities and new hire trainingprograms.General Business18. Facilitate, in coordination with Management, competency evaluation for MedicalAssistants.19. Assist leadership with ensuring safe, high quality care for our patients and a safeworking environment for all. Serve as a Regulatory, and Safety and Infection ControlChampion for the Medical Assistants.20. Serve as a Superuser for Medical Assistants, often being the first point of contactfor the team.21. Assist leadership with ensuring a great Patient Experience, assisting with patientconcerns and helping to identify opportunities to improve the patient experience. Serveas a Patient Experience Champion for the Medical Assistants.22. Perform inventory checks, reconciliation, and supply list for ordering.23. Other PRN tasks assigned by admin.Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). Diploma as amedical administrative assistant from an accredited medical vocational course preferred.Experience: Minimum four years of medical assistant experience in a medical officesetting.Performance Requirements:Knowledge:1. Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures.2. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type from draft copy andreview and edit reports and correspondence.3. Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcilefigures, and make changes accurately.4. Knowledge of Medical assisting tasks that include taking vital signs, drawingblood plus lab process, procedure prep, and RX prior authorizations.5. Familiarity with healthcare systems, regulations, policies, and functions.6. Knowledge of infection control and safety standards.Skills:1. Skill in operating office equipment.2. Skill in organizational matters, including time management, prioritization,multitasking, and problem-solving.3. Common computer skills4. Pass Medical Assistant clinical competency and assessment.Abilities:General Business1. Ability to type 40 words per minute using word-processing software. Able tolearn/use other computer programs including Microsoft Excel, e-mail, Internet, andMicrosoft PowerPoint.2. Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.3. Ability to sort and file materials correctly using alphabetic or numeric systems.4. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients,physicians and other clinical staff, and the public.Equipment Operated: Office machinery including computers, cystoscopy scopes/carts,ultrasound machines, autoclave, and instruments for several procedures.Work Environment: Work performed in an office environment. Involves frequentcontact with staff and patients.Mental/Physical Requirements: Manual dexterity for office machine operationincluding computer and clinical equipment; stooping, bending to handle patient’smobility to complete errands or deliveries, or sitting or standing for extended periods oftime.
