Position Description

Position Summary

The Paint Prep/Painter roles play a key part in the overall production operation. The primary duties include prepping and applying various coatings to beams, trusses, and other various types of structural steel using airless high-pressure systems.

Competencies:

  • Understanding and application of paint cut-in procedures
  • Knowledge of paint for each job
  • Basic understanding of NP and NTC areas
  • Overall preparation of material in advance of painters (removal od spatter, mill scale, and laminations, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of SSPC blast profiles
  • Safe operations of overhead crane and associated lifting devices (to include pre-shift checks)
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous waste rules and procedures
  • Performs quality checks of product produced
Position Requirements

Essential Duties, Skills, Abilities
    • Ability to receive feedback and learn from others.
    • Apply paint, enamel, epoxy and various other coatings to various types of structural steel and components using airless high-pressure spray equipment.
  • Read production prints or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work
requirements.
  • Mix epoxy and other coatings with thinning and drying additives to obtain desired
consistency.
  • Able to gauge depth of paint being applied, so that it meets customer specifications.
    • Able to use depth gauge equipment to measure paint.
    • Hand paint nooks and crannies that can't be reached with sprayer.
    • Clean off beams by blowing off and/or scrapping bb's off
    • Work with needle gun and grinder to prep metal
Technical Skills 1. Follows all Paint cut in procedures 2. Makes sure all material is prepped and ready for the painters 3. Basic understanding of taping areas with no waste and of large areas. 4.Efficient in the removal of splatter, mill scale and lamination 5. Makes sure all material is blown off efficiently for the application of paint 6. Basic knowledge of hazardous materials usage and related environmental issues 7. Maintains a high level of productivity to ensure product is available to be painted 8. All repair work meets Quality Control and customer standards Quality and Safety Skills 1. Quality of work performed meets customers' and company's requirements 2. Follows all safety requirements when preparing the product 3. Uses required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when and where required 4. Lifts, moves, and sets up material (under 75lbs) in a safe efficient manner. 5. Knowledge of environmental hazards and what action to take if exposed People Skills 1. Receives instruction and direction well 2. Works well independently with little to no supervision 3. Maintains a consistent, positive work ethic and attitude 4. Friendly and cooperative with fellow employees and supervision 5. Reliable, consistent work attendance

Requirements and Qualifications
    • Paint Prep or Painting experience preferred.
    • Experience with airless high-pressure systems a plus.

Not allergic to paints and chemicals in the department.

Able to work in an environment that has paint and thinner fumes.

Able to work in an environment that has some welding fumes.
