EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess at least a bachelor's degree in the education field with an appropriate State of Ohio teaching certification/license (Speech and Language). Must possess a valid driver's license. Willingness/ability to teach in a co-teaching setting. Must meet the definition of "Highly Qualified" for certification purposes. Demonstrates sincere desire to aid all students. A satisfactory report from Criminal Records Check.RESPONSIBILITIES
The speech pathologist will function as a member of the multidisciplinary team to determine the student's eligibility for special education services, appropriate programming, and on-going progress. Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment. Attends meetings such as faculty meetings, special education meetings and parent-teacher conferences as appropriate. Collaborates with parents and school personnel, such as teachers and psychologists, to implement therapy that meets the needs of students. Develops appropriate IEPs based on students' strengths and needs. Maintains records of the speech-language program and prepares periodic reports as required. Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards. Conducts speech and language diagnostic assessments and screenings as required by law to identify speech handicapped children. Serves on student intervention team/Individualized Education Program (IEP) team as appropriate. Administers formal and informal (ongoing and curriculum-based) assessments. Obtains additional diagnostic information from appropriate persons and available records for speech-language purposes. Analyzes and interprets information in order to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services and accommodations that enable students' success with the general curriculum. Provides appropriate program of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech/language handicaps. Develops and implements curriculum based speech-language therapy lesson plans. Provides information to parents and teachers about speech, language and hearing development and services. Manages the facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology, necessary to the delivery of services. Assesses student progress on a regular basis and provides information and reports as required by District policy and practices. Develops and maintains a schedule for speech/language screening, diagnostic assessments, therapy/instructional services and other activities and submits to the Director of Student Services. Consults and communicates with non-school agencies to enhance services. Performs other relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or the Building Principal. Employs intervention strategies for students in need of assistance. Consistently enforces the district and building codes of conduct. Develops a climate of mutual respect and cooperation as evidenced by pupil-pupil and pupil-teacher interaction. Reinforces/rewards appropriate social and academic behavior and uses constructive disciplinary approaches. Assists students to develop responsibility and exercise self-discipline. Participates in continued educational experiences to remain current in the profession of education. Maintains professional interactions with other educational personnel, parents, and the community. Performs necessary clerical responsibilities. Works independently and/or cooperatively to identify and solve professionally related problems, issues, and concerns. Accepts change and constructive criticism in a professional manner. Follows written administrative policies and procedures of the department, school and district.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible intelligent human beings. Helps instill in students and adults the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. Conducts other duties related to the teacher's duties as assigned and requested by the teacher, building principal or superintendent. Models appropriate, professional dress.ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions. Occasional interaction among unruly children. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials or to working conditions which require use of special procedures, precautions, or personal protection equipment as specified by Board Policy or OSHA regulations. Complies with drug and alcohol testing according to any/all federal and state laws/regulations.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary shall be determined annually by the Board of Education's adopted schedule. Length of contract and compensation will be determined by the Board of Education. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.EVALUATION
This position shall be evaluated by an administrator with the certificated credentialing, using the form and procedures adopted by the Board of Education.
