Registered Nurse PACU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides skilled nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, including those with complex diagnoses such as pancreatic, lung, colon, and gastric cancers. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, IV placement, phlebotomy, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient recovery. The nurse must demonstrate competency in specialized procedures and equipment, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients recovering from endoscopic procedures such as EUS, ERCP, Navigational Bronchoscopy, and EBUS.
• Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and manage post-procedural recovery.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Place IV lines and perform phlebotomy as required for patient care.
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Operate specialized equipment including ERBE, Olympus scopes/processors, Super-D, Bravo, VCE, and Manometry devices.
• Maintain competency in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) protocols.
• Float to Pre-Anesthesia or other PACU areas as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotations covering weeknights, weekends, and holidays approximately 4-6 shifts per month.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience, preferably in PACU or related procedural areas.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Current ACLS and BLS certification.
• Ability to operate specialized endoscopic and monitoring equipment.
• Strong clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with oncology-related procedural nursing care.
• Previous experience in endoscopy or gastroenterology nursing.
• Familiarity with procedural diagnoses such as pancreatic, lung, colon, and gastric cancers.

Special Considerations:

• On-call requirements include weeknights, weekends, and holidays, approximately 4-6 shifts monthly.
• Floating to Pre-Anesthesia or other PACU units may be required.
• Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility.
• Uniform scrubs required: Navy and White.

Scheduling:

• Work 10-hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
• Days off vary based on department needs; same day off every week or consistent Monday/Friday off cannot be guaranteed.
• 8-week assignment duration.
