Veteran Health Indiana is the VA's healthcare system in central and southern Indiana. The health system has been serving Hoosier Veterans since 1932. As Indiana's Level 1a, tertiary care Veteran facility, the medical center serves as home base for a system of inpatient and outpatient care locations serving more than 62,000 Veterans, including 5,000 women, who utilize 736,000 outpatient appointments each year and 7,000 inpatient care episodes each year. Our Veterans come from communities across Indiana and eastern Illinois.

Medical center programs include acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, neurological, and rehabilitation care, utilizing 159 inpatient beds, as well both primary and specialized outpatient services.

Location: 557 Pitt Road, Brownsburg, IN 46112 REQUIREMENTS (duties include but are not limited to)

• The phlebotomist(s) shall be responsible for accurately identifying patients, obtaining the proper specimens, recognizing and immediately reporting adverse patient reaction to venipuncture procedures to appropriate VA personnel.
• Phlebotomist(s) shall be responsible for processing laboratory specimens as well as specimen pickup, delivery of blood and blood products and computer related functions such as accessioning specimens. Phlebotomist(s) shall refer problems/inquiries to VA team leaders or supervisors.
• Phlebotomist(s) shall complete all Medical Center's required mandatory education and confirm all laboratory policies and procedures directly related to their job duties.
• Phlebotomist(s) shall follow hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, including safety and computer policies.
• Must be familiar in dealing with hospital patient population, including drawing elderly and difficult patients.
• Must have tact and personality conducive to interacting with ill, disoriented, sometimes difficult inpatient and outpatient population.
• Phlebotomist(s) shall be required to have basic typing and PC computer skills.
• Documentation and ordering of test orders shall be done electronically on the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) computer system. As a part of the orientation process, phlebotomist(s) shall be required to request and obtain an access code to the VistA computer system. At that time, phlebotomist(s) shall have access to training.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a minimum of two (2) years of College with a biological science OR six (6) months of specialized experience performing phlebotomy procedures, and have a certification from an approved Phlebotomy Training Program by the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA).
• Must have and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
