Job Overview Marine Electrician (Dual Rate) responsible for operation, routine checks, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems aboard a sea‑going vessel. Job Responsibilities Make scheduled and special operational checks of equipment including switchboards, rheostats, relays, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, dredge pump speed control system, telemotor steering system, engine order telegraph, etc. Observe gauges, pistons, and note unusual conditions such as heating, oil or grease loss, loose fittings, or broken units, and make repairs or adjustments as required. Perform periodic or special preventative maintenance checks of units. Dismantle, observe, replace scheduled or worn elements, lubricate, pack, and repair units as required. Install replacement or new equipment such as floodlights, signals, fixtures, etc. Repair or participate in repair of any electrical unit on board including motors, pumps, generators, control panels, and special equipment. Itemize materials and parts used and update instrument charts. Qualifications Current United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with oiler endorsement. Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED) with valid Electrician's Endorsement within 24 months of entrance on duty. Current Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Permission to lift up to 45 lbs. Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical and an annual physical thereafter. Willingness to serve a one‑year probationary period (if applicable). Willingness to travel up to 95% of the time for business purposes. Drug testing designated position requiring pre‑employment and random testing. Ability to obtain or possess a Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping as an Able‑Seafarer Engine and an Electrician's Endorsement within 24 months of entrance on duty. Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination following a completed background investigation. Must possess a valid U.S. Citizenship declaration. Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and, for male applicants born after December 31, 1959, a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Physical Effort Repairs and installations performed from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; often in hard‑to‑reach places. Long periods standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing; frequent lifting, carrying, and setting up tools and equipment up to 45 lbs. Working Conditions Primarily inside closed areas with occasional work outside. Regular exposure to noise, heat, fumes, and confined quarters in the engine room area. Typical electrical hazards including shock, strain, burns, cuts, falls from ladders, and exposure to fumes and heat. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre‑Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Position requires a one‑year probationary period with performance evaluation. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
