Senior Communications Payload Architect
$170k - $240kFull-time
True Talent Solutions Partners
About the Role
As a senior individual contributor on a satellite communications engineering team, you will own end-to-end payload architecture for a next-generation broadband satellite constellation. You will shape the payload design and technology roadmap, balancing technical performance with customer and program commitments.
What You'll Do
Own system-level payload architecture, including link and power budgets, and identify opportunities to improve performance as technologies mature.
Manage current and prospective equipment vendors, guiding development of RF components for high-volume manufacturing.
Lead payload research and development planning, assessing technology readiness against customer delivery timelines.
Identify RF chain bottlenecks across transponders, amplifiers, filters, and frequency conversion, then prioritize work to address performance risks.
Define qualification test programs, requirements, and milestones ahead of constellation manufacturing.
Drive technical and business decisions with leadership, sales, hardware teams, and vendors.
What We're Looking For
At least 10 years of satellite communications payload design and systems architecture experience.
End-to-end architecture ownership for multiple satellite communications payloads, from concept through integration, test, and flight.
Expertise across analog and digital payload systems, including subsystem tradeoffs, vendor selection, interfaces, and integration.
Experience developing technology and making autonomous architecture decisions across technical and business stakeholders.
A bachelor's degree in electrical, RF, or communications engineering; an advanced degree is a plus.
Familiarity with tools such as Python, MATLAB, ADS, HFSS, and STK.
Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected individual.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $170,000 to $240,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
On-site, five days per week in the Long Beach, California area. Primary location: Los Angeles, California.
