Paralegal (International Trade)

International Trade Paralegal – Washington, D.C. office About the Position The International Trade Paralegal plays a key role in the firm’s International Trade Practice, providing clients with guidance on global trade policies and remedies. Utilizing strong research, writing, and data analysis skills, the paralegal supports advocacy in negotiations and trade dispute proceedings. Essential Functions Trade Remedies & Litigation: Collaborate with team members in drafting and preparing submissions for the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. International Trade Commission in antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings. Prepare submissions for the U.S. Trade Representative, U.S. Court of International Trade, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Participate in internal investigations and draft voluntary disclosures to government enforcement authorities (e.g., U.S. Customs, U.S. Department of Commerce). Research & Analysis: Perform trade research and analysis, reviewing import data, trade trends, and market statistics to aid attorneys in advising clients. Support due diligence and reverse due diligence reviews related to export controls and sanctions compliance in mergers and acquisitions. Client Relations & Business Development: Work with clients on ongoing trade matters and prepare business proposals for future clients. Execute additional duties as assigned to meet firm goals and objectives. Education and Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Experience: 1-3 years of experience in international trade, specifically antidumping and countervailing duty and other trade remedy proceedings. Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Westlaw, Lexis, and PACER. Performance Traits Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities to convey detailed information concisely. Ability to work in a diverse team environment, support demanding needs, and meet shifting priorities under pressure. Self‑starter with high initiative, strong customer service orientation, and independent judgment. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and capacity to handle multiple projects. Confidentiality, discretion, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Physical Requirements May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. May require travel to other offices as needed (optional). Compensation and Benefits Typical pay range: $51,000 to $68,000, though actual salary may vary based on education, experience, and internal alignment.
