Overview Medical Lab Scientist job summary. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Lab Scientist to join our Blood Bank team. This role provides comprehensive support for transfusion services, serving pediatric and adult patients across various specialty areas. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, especially on the night shift, and possess strong technical skills in blood bank procedures. As a Medical Lab Scientist, you will perform routine and specialized compatibility testing, as well as prepare blood components for transfusion. You will be working in a high-volume, highly specialized Blood Bank laboratory, processing approximately 15,000 samples. This position requires the ability to float between Methodist, University, and Riley Hospitals. Responsibilities Perform specimen processing. Conduct ABO/Rh and Antibody Screens and Identifications. Perform Antibody Typing using Tube Method. Execute Crossmatches (Immediate Spin/IgG and Electronic). Perform Indirect Coombs Tests. Perform Antigen Typing. Perform AHG Crossmatch. Perform Blood irradiation. Conduct Cord Blood Evaluations. Perform Direct Coombs (DAT). Perform Rhogam Screening. Perform Transfusion Reaction Workups. Report test results accurately and efficiently. Ensure proper Specimen Collection, Receipt, and Transport. Required Qualifications ASCP-MLS or ASCP-MLT AND ASCP-BB certification. Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Experience working in a hospital clinical laboratory. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a Level I Trauma Center. Experience with Cerner charting system. Experience working with Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. Skills & Competencies Proficiency in ABO/Rh/Antibody Screen & ID. Experience with Accessioning. Proficiency in Antibody Typing: Tube Method. Experience with Crossmatch-Immediate Spin/IgG and Electronic Crossmatch. Familiarity with hospital clinical laboratory procedures. Proficient in Pipetting. Ability to accurately report test results. Knowledge of Specimen Collection, Receipt, and Transport protocols. Experience with Trauma protocols. Experience working in a Children\'s hospital. Experience with Automated equipment. Experience with Gel Testing Method. Ability to Modify Components.
