Shift: Variable 8 hour shifts, 0545-1415, 0830-1700, 1145-2015.

This position may be filled as either I non-certified or II, certified.

If hired in CP Tech I role, must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

CP Tech I - Non Certified

PAY RANGE: $22.35 - $31.29

Job Description: 

PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, Clinical Manager of Surgical Services and Central Supply Supervisor, the Central Processing Technician I cleans and processes surgical instruments and other equipment used within the Hospital. Sets up case carts and meets supply need of requesting departments. Engages in receiving, sterilizing, storing, rotating and delivering materials, equipment and supplies to various Hospital departments.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must have six months of experience working in healthcare, preferred in Central processing.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required. Able to read/understand (English) directions.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to learn technical hospital procedures as they relate to the function of the department.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must have at least six (6) months experience working in healthcare, preferred in Central Processing or the Operating Room. Must obtain a Certification of Completion for Sterile Processing within 12 months of hire date.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
*Indicates Essential Function

1 * Operates all machines pertaining to the cleaning process of instruments and equipment, tags and checks operation of equipment to make ready for use. Returns clean equipment to the appropriate area to be re-charged electrically.
2 * Familiar with cleaning procedures when handling contaminated supplies. Capable of handling and washing equipment according to departmental policy.
3 * Answers telephone and fills requests for carts and supplies.
4 * Able to work in all areas of Central Processing Department as the staffing need arises.
5 * Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.

CP Tech II - Certified

PAY RANGE: $25.87 - $36.23

Job Description:

The patient population served is all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, Clinical Manager of Surgical Services and Central Supply Supervisor, the Central Processing Technician II is independently capable of functioning in all areas of the department. May be assigned Supervisor responsibilities in any area or act as lead in any designated area. Engages in receiving, sterilizing, stirring, rotating and delivering materials, equipment and supplies to various Hospital departments.

Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

1 * Knowledgeable to perform all functions and operations pertaining to the sterilizers. Responsible for operating sterilizers, aerators and their monitoring and cleaning.
2 * Knowledgeable and initiates recall system, in the event of a sterilizer cycle failure.
3 * Must know Microbiology, instrumentation and hand cleaning techniques of equipment and machines. Familiar with cleaning procedures when handling contaminated supplies. Capable of handling and washing equipment according to departmental policy.
4 * Able to inventory and order supplies from General Stores for department.
5 * Orients new employees.
6 * Capable of problem-solving situations.
7 * Responsible for any other duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor or designee.
8 * Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
