Anticipated Health Teacher (Temporary Position)Location: Delmar Middle School (Grades 5-8) 200 N. Code Title 14, 1539); Required Satisfactory Child Protection Registry Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation Cooperative Attitude Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and parents. Good oral and written communication with the ability to present information effectively. The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment. Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check and child protection registry check, which are the responsibility of the employee. The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.Essential Responsibilities: Plan, develop, and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate health education instruction for students in grades 5–8 aligned with the Delaware Health Education Standards, District curriculum, and applicable state requirements. Provide a sequential, skill-based comprehensive health education program that develops students' knowledge and their ability to apply healthy behaviors, make informed decisions, establish goals, communicate effectively, access reliable health information and services, and advocate for personal and community health. Provide instruction across required health education content areas, including but not limited to tobacco, alcohol and other drugs; injury prevention and safety; nutrition and physical activity; personal health and wellness; mental health; and community and environmental health. Ensure instruction meets Delaware's required instructional expectations for grades 5–8, including required comprehensive health, family life, and drug and alcohol education. Grades 5 and 6 require at least 35 hours per grade, including at least 15 hours of drug and alcohol education per grade; grades 7 and 8 are subject to the separate instructional requirements established in Regulation 551. Design learning experiences that move beyond acquisition of health knowledge by providing students opportunities to practice and demonstrate health-related skills, including decision-making, goal-setting, interpersonal communication, self-management, analyzing influences, accessing valid information and resources, and health advocacy. Provide age-appropriate instruction related to family life, healthy relationships, personal boundaries, consent, and prevention of high-risk behaviors in accordance with Delaware requirements and District-approved curriculum and instructional materials. Teach students to evaluate the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other environmental factors on individual health choices and behaviors and to critically evaluate health-related information and messages. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies, current health information, appropriate technology, and relevant real-world applications to promote student engagement and development of lifelong health literacy. Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and supports to meet the diverse academic, developmental, social-emotional, and learning needs of students, including students with IEPs and Section 504 Plans. Develop and utilize formative and summative assessments to evaluate students' understanding of health concepts and their ability to apply health-related skills, analyze student performance, provide meaningful feedback, and adjust instruction to improve student outcomes. Maintain accurate lesson plans, instructional records, assessments, grades, and documentation necessary to demonstrate implementation of the District's health curriculum and compliance with Delaware health education instructional requirements. Collaborate with administrators, school counselors, nurses, physical education teachers, special education staff, families, and other school and community partners, as appropriate, to support comprehensive student health and wellness education. Recognize and appropriately respond to student disclosures or concerns that may arise during health instruction, following District procedures and applicable requirements related to student confidentiality, mandated reporting, student safety, and referral to appropriate school personnel. Communicate professionally and effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding curriculum, student progress, classroom expectations, and health education programming while maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Participate in professional learning related to health education standards, evidence-based instructional practices, adolescent health and development, required health education content, and other areas necessary to maintain effective and current instruction. Maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning, enforcing school rules and classroom behavior expectations consistently. Monitor students' academic progress through accurate grades and assessments. Maintain communication with students, parents/guardians, and school staff as needed. Make reasonable efforts to provide for the care and protection of school property, equipment, and materials. Practice sound interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and families. Maintain a professional relationship, working cooperatively with all school personnel. Participate in department or team meetings, professional development, and other school-related duties as requested. Report to work on time every workday, except as afforded by existing law. Perform other duties as directed by the school administration. The teacher must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is required to fluently speak and understand English. While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers, and reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this job, expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.Salary: As per State and Local Salary Schedules for FY27 based upon verified experience and educational degree.Date of Employment: September 21, 2026 or other mutually agreeable date.
