PART-TIME SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR - SPECIAL RECREATION Opportunity at a Glance The Village of Orland Park Special Recreation Division is seeking a compassionate, energetic and organized professional to join our team as Part-Time Special Events Coordinator. This position is responsible for the planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs, events, and community-based experiences that promote social engagement, independence, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. Key Responsibilities This important role is responsible for planning, coordinating and assisting with Special Recreation programs, events, social clubs, and the Rhodes to Independence Adult Day Program for individuals with special needs; developing engaging therapeutic recreation experiences that promote leisure education, social interaction, independence, and personal growth; modifying activities, environments, and equipment to meet the diverse physical, cognitive, emotional, sensory and behavioral needs of participants; providing direct participant support using positive behavior management techniques while encouraging independence and self-advocacy; building meaningful relationships with participants, families, staff, and cooperative agencies to ensure quality recreation experiences. Supervising participants during programs, transportation, community outings, and events while ensuring participant health, safety and well-being; evaluating participant progress, program outcomes, and participant satisfaction on continuously improving program quality. Additional duties include assisting with budgeting, purchasing program supplies, inventory management, and PCARD reconciliation; contributing to marketing efforts, including social media content creation, flyers, newsletters, and other promotional materials to increase community awareness of Special Recreation Services. Attendance at staff meetings, professional development and required training are expected. Assisting with coordinating transportation and operating agency vehicles once authorized is also required. This position will be scheduled approximately 29 hours per week; some evenings, weekends and Holidays required. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Knowledge of working with individuals with disabilities is preferred. Strong oral, written, and organizational skills along with enthusiasm to work with children is a must. Candidates with any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities listed will be considered. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: First Aid/CPR certification and valid Driver’s License. Compensation & Benefits Hourly pay rate is $18.85 - $26.71. Anticipated starting rate is $20.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is an IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) eligible position.
