JOB TITLE: DriverDEPARTMENT: Grenier IndustriesREPORTS TO: Vocational DirectorJOB SUMMARY:To transport recipients to and from a variety of vocational and habilitation sites and to assure their safety while passengers in the vehicle. This position is responsible for ensuring the vehicle is in a safe operating condition at all times. Drivers are assigned to drive wheelchair or ambulatory recipients in specially equipped vehicles.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:NOTE: The essential duties and responsibilities listed are typical examples of the work performed by this position. Not all duties assigned are included.Drives an agency vehicle safely in accordance with time schedules; transporting recipients to and from their homes, a variety of vocational sites, and on field trips as assigned.Conducts established safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.Assures maintenance of vehicle in safe and clean operating condition; reporting needed mechanical repairs, sweeping interior of the van, and washing windows as needed. Services the vehicle with gas.Establishes drop off and pickup order of recipients; conferring with parents, supervisors, and staff regarding transportation needs, plotting route on map, documenting route, and adjusting route for new and/or dropped recipients.Monitors recipients with special health problems while in van; receiving written or oral instructions, being aware and alert to any signs of difficulty following prescribed instructions and procedures, administering first aid, and calling for emergency assistance.Transports and delivers medication, personal belongings, messages and memos between parents and staff, collects and returns personal property when entering and disembarking.Maintains a variety of records and reports including but not limited to mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules.Attends meetings, programs, and in-service training as assigned.Maintains current required licenses and certificates.Notifies appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route.Assists with other routes when breakdown or other unusual circumstances occur as assigned.Drives morning and afternoon bus routes as directed by the Vocational Director to meet the operational needs of the agency.Provides transportation for Supported Employment services and other agency-related transportation needs as assigned by the Vocational Director.Meets the overall driving and transportation needs of the agency as assigned by the Vocational Director.Makes deliveries for Point Made Construction and other agency enterprises as needed.Checks that all individuals in the vehicle are properly restrained and secured prior to beginning routes or transportation services.Operates agency vehicles in a safe, professional, and timely manner while following all traffic laws and agency policies.Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.Performs other duties as assigned.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
