Patient Care Technicians - Behavioral Health Tech Profession: Psychiatric Attendant Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 52 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Experience: Minimum years of experience required Description:Provides on-ward security functions over forensic patients or residents of secure-care areas of a mental health institution.Provides on-ward surveillance regarding safety and security.Escorts patients to and from off-ward activities or appointments such as meals, dental visits, laboratory work, recreational, and therapeutic activities.Investigates patient misbehavior.Observes and monitors patient behavior, especially during meals.Intervenes during crisis situations to prevent self-injury or injury to others.Applies restraints or assists nursing staff in subduing or secluding violent patients.Monitors patients in seclusion.Searches patient clothing, individual rooms, and ward living areas for dangerous objects and contraband.Prevents patient escapes.Provides direct care, treatment, and programs to forensic patients.Promotes activities on and off-ward through participation, interaction, and involvement with patients.Attends to personal hygiene and grooming needs by monitoring and instructing treatment plan programs.Encourages independent functioning.Monitors and instructs or assists patients in washing clothes.Conducts one-to-one sessions with patients to discuss problems or concerns.Provides adequate clothing and serves meal trays.Assists in administering treatments as directed by licensed staff.Prepares patients to attend psychiatric or medical treatment.Bathes, shaves, feeds, and dresses patients who are unable to perform these tasks.Leads patients in recreational activities.Assists coworkers in maintaining sanitary living conditions by performing general housekeeping duties.Cleans floors, picks up trash, and bags laundry.Prepares reports and documentation regarding patient and unit activities.Documents significant, unusual, or appropriate patient behavior in progress notes.Completes restraint/seclusion reports, daily logs, and incident reports.Completes work orders and orders patient clothing and cleaning supplies.Prepares patient movement reports and keeps unit communication logs updated.Documents crisis interventions.Attends in-service training programs and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.Attends weekly staff meetings.Responds to patient needs in emergency situations.Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures related to forensic patient care.Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action.Dealing with problems involving several variables within a familiar context.Reading short sentences with concrete vocabulary is essential.Formal education in arithmetic, including addition and subtraction, and in reading and writing common English vocabulary is necessary. #J-18808-Ljbffr Cynet HealthStaff
