Overview
Lightship is the first American all-electric recreational vehicle manufacturer currently developing an aerodynamic, battery-powered trailer for the electric age. As the macro transition to an all-electric transportation ecosystem accelerates, Lightship is bringing the increased convenience and superior performance that electrification offers to a pastime enjoyed by over 11 million American families.
Honoring Diverse Perspectives
Lightship is committed to hiring and developing top talent from diverse backgrounds. We believe representing and supporting diverse groups is key to the success of our team members, customers, shareholders and the achievement of our mission and vision. We operate in a collaborative environment with a flat organizational structure and expect a high degree of integrity, autonomy and creativity from all members of the team.
About the Role:
Lightship’s mission to modernize and electrify RVs demands building cutting edge electronics and controls. We are seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Android UI/UX and Systems Interfacing. In this role, you will be the primary architect of the user experience as it relates to vehicle controls and transforming telemetry data from the Lightship RV into an intuitive mobile interface. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of our cloud infrastructure. To succeed, you will develop a strong understanding of how our systems work and how the users interact with them.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build engaging applications in Android and iOS platforms
Work closely with backend developers to integrate APIs, third-party libraries, and cloud services (like Firebase) to ensure seamless data flow and functionality
Collaborate with our third-party development team on new features and releases
Develop, maintain, and extend cloud server applications and infrastructure
Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, and collaborate with designers, product managers, and test engineers
Adhere to best practices and coding standards, conduct code reviews, and maintain clear documentation for future upgrades and utilization
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or 6+ years of relevant experience
Proficiency developing with Kotlin for Android
Proficiency with using tools like Figma for Ux design and mockups
Experience using Flutter for cross-platform application development
Experience with UI design and reactive UI patterns
Experience with ProtoBufs, MQTT, WebSockets, and restricted-bandwidth data protocols
Experience with Embedded Linux and Linux system services
Experience working with databases such as SQLite
Experience using version control tools like Git and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with AWS IoT Core, Lambda
Proficiency in C#, Python
Familiarity with Ethernet, WiFi, LTE, and Bluetooth
Familiarity with GTest Framework or equivalent
Experience with XCode and TestFlight
Experience working with cross-functional software, hardware, test, and manufacturing teams

Lightship offers all of its full time employees and their dependents full benefits including health, dental and vision insurance. We are on a mission to create a more healthful all-electric experience for a pastime that millions of families enjoy and believe strongly that our team should not have to worry about quality healthcare for themselves or their loved ones along the way.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
