Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation

Direct Hire | $85k–$100k | Shoreview, MN

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an automation engineering team focused on the design, development, and testing of advanced equipment and automated systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys taking mechanical concepts from the early design stage through production and testing.

Responsibilities:

• Develop mechanical concepts and detailed designs for automated equipment and electromechanical systems.
• Create 3D models, assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Perform tolerance analysis, design calculations, and other engineering analysis as needed.
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate with senior engineers on complex automation projects.
• Ensure designs meet customer requirements, product specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable industry standards.
• Work closely with manufacturing and operations to improve designs for quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Troubleshoot mechanical design and quality issues and develop solutions.
• Support prototype builds, testing, and design validation.
• Assist with research and development initiatives to improve products, processes, and engineering methods.
• Respond to customer requests and provide technical solutions related to assigned projects.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 2+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Experience with 3D CAD and mechanical drafting.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Experience:

• 4+ years of mechanical design experience.
• SolidWorks experience.
• Experience designing electromechanical assemblies or automated equipment.
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems.
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototype, testing, and production.
