Construction Inspector

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Engineering Department in Camden or Wall Township, NJ. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction professional to support bridge and roadway projects throughout New Jersey by monitoring field activities, documenting progress, and helping ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.

This individual will help maintain project quality and accountability through accurate observations, thorough documentation, and timely communication.

Construction Inspection & Field Experience

FPA’s Construction Engineering Department supports transportation infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey, providing construction inspection and engineering services for bridge and roadway projects.

The Construction Inspector will observe contractor activities, verify compliance with contract requirements, document construction progress and installed quantities, and support the resolution of field issues while collaborating with FPA’s Project Managers and engineering teams. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of transportation construction projects throughout New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction inspection and observation on New Jersey-based bridge and roadway projects.

• Monitor daily contractor operations to ensure work is performed in accordance with contract documents, plans, specifications, and applicable standards.

• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, site conditions, installed quantities, workforce and equipment on site, and overall project progress.

• Assist with the review and verification of project quantities and cost estimates.

• Review project submittals and other construction documentation as directed by Project Managers and engineering staff.

• Coordinate with Project Managers and project team members regarding construction progress, field conditions, and potential issues.

• Communicate with contractors, clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders regarding field activities and project requirements.

• Maintain organized and up-to-date project files, inspection reports, photographs, correspondence, and other project documentation.

• Document construction progress through photographs and field observations.

• Monitor contractor compliance with project schedules and communicate potential delays or field issues to the Project Manager.

• Travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as required.

• Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list development, final inspections, and completion documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working on construction projects, preferably with construction inspection or observation experience.

• Experience performing construction inspection, preferably on bridge and/or roadway projects.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

• Ability to work effectively with contractors, Project Managers, engineers, clients, and other project stakeholders.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction inspection or field reporting software is a plus.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

• Ability to pass a TWIC background check.

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement plans. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program.
