About the Role SEIU Local 2015 is seeking an experienced and solutions-oriented Systems Administrator to support the reliability, security, performance, and continued development of the union’s statewide technology infrastructure. The Systems Administrator is responsible for administering and maintaining servers, network systems, cloud services, telecommunications platforms, workstations, mobile devices, enterprise applications, and related technology resources. This position serves as a technical expert and escalation resource, helping ensure that staff, members, leaders, and organizational programs have consistent and secure access to the technology needed to advance the union’s mission. Working closely with the IT Coordinator and other technology staff, the Systems Administrator supports infrastructure operations, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, business continuity, end-user service delivery, and technology modernization. The position also contributes to technical research, systems planning, implementation, documentation, and the ongoing improvement of technology services across SEIU Local 2015. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. Key Responsibilities Systems Administration & Infrastructure Management Administer, maintain, and support servers, operating systems, workstations, mobile devices, printers, audiovisual equipment, and related technology infrastructure Monitor enterprise systems for performance, availability, reliability, and security Perform routine maintenance, system patching, upgrades, configuration changes, and troubleshooting Establish, modify, and maintain user accounts, system permissions, security groups, and access controls Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Exchange, and related infrastructure services Maintain accurate system documentation, technical inventories, configuration standards, and operating procedures Conduct capacity planning and recommend infrastructure improvements based on organizational growth and operational needs Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical solutions that strengthen organizational effectiveness Network & Cybersecurity Operations Monitor, administer, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and internet connectivity Identify, investigate, and address cybersecurity risks, vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, and potential system intrusions Support the implementation and enforcement of technology security standards, access controls, and systems-management practices Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure optimization Maintain backup, disaster-recovery, and business-continuity systems and procedures Test backup and recovery processes to help protect mission-critical systems and organizational data Assist with cybersecurity incident response, documentation, escalation, and remediation Promote secure technology practices and provide guidance to staff regarding system and data security Telecommunications & Collaboration Systems Administer Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and telecommunications platforms, including user provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and support Maintain video-conferencing, conference-call, audiovisual, and organizational collaboration platforms Configure and support mobile devices, user accounts, service plans, and related technology resources Provide technical infrastructure support for organizational meetings, Executive Board meetings, trainings, conferences, and special events Troubleshoot telecommunications and collaboration-system issues and coordinate resolution with vendors when necessary Technical Projects & Innovation Participate in infrastructure modernization, systems implementation, and technology-improvement initiatives Conduct technical research, needs assessments, and feasibility evaluations for new systems, platforms, and services Assist with project planning, technical design, system configuration, testing, deployment, documentation, and post-implementation support Develop implementation plans and technical recommendations that reflect organizational requirements, security needs, and available resources Coordinate with technology vendors, service providers, consultants, and external partners Track assigned project deliverables, risks, dependencies, and timelines Identify opportunities to automate routine processes and improve the reliability and efficiency of technology operations End-User Support & Service Delivery Provide advanced technical support and escalation assistance for complex hardware, software, network, account-access, and systems-related issues Diagnose root causes and implement timely, effective, and sustainable solutions Partner with IT Support Specialists and other technology staff to resolve escalated requests and strengthen service-delivery processes Support technology operations for SEIU Local 2015 offices, training centers, remote staff, and statewide programs Communicate system interruptions, planned maintenance, security concerns, and resolution updates clearly and promptly Create technical instructions, knowledge-base materials, and user documentation Help ensure technology services support staff productivity, organizational campaigns, and operational effectiveness Documentation, Asset Management & Compliance Maintain accurate records of systems, equipment, licenses, warranties, configurations, service agreements, and technology assets Document system changes, incidents, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and maintenance activities Assist with technology audits, vendor reviews, risk assessments, and compliance-related documentation Support the development and maintenance of IT policies, standards, procedures, and internal controls Protect confidential organizational, personnel, membership, and technology information Perform other duties and special projects as assigned Required Qualifications Four to seven years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise systems, servers, networks, and technology infrastructure Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Exchange, and enterprise applications Experience administering network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and internet connectivity Experience supporting telecommunications, VoIP, mobile-device, and collaboration platforms Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, access controls, vulnerability management, backup systems, and disaster-recovery practices Strong diagnostic, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills Ability to independently assess complex technical issues, determine priorities, and implement effective solutions Experience documenting system configurations, processes, technical procedures, and issue resolutions Ability to explain complex technical information clearly to staff and leaders with varying levels of technical knowledge Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively as part of a technology team Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive systems, access credentials, and organizational information Commitment computer science, information systems, or a related field; an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and professional experience may be considered Microsoft, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, or other relevant technical certifications Experience with virtualization technologies and cloud-based infrastructure platforms Experience administering enterprise backup, recovery, security, and infrastructure-monitoring solutions Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, systems automation, scripting, and reporting tools Experience supporting a multi-site organization and remote or hybrid workforce Experience participating in technology implementations, infrastructure migrations, or systems-modernization initiatives Experience supporting nonprofit, This position supports SEIU Local 2015 offices, staff, and technology operations throughout California. The role operates in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and requires the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities, urgent technical issues, and organization-wide operational needs. Periodic statewide travel may be required to support union offices, training centers, meetings, events, technology installations, and infrastructure initiatives. The position may occasionally require work outside standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays, to perform system maintenance, respond to technology emergencies, or support organizational priorities. The role requires extended periods of working at a computer and may involve installing, moving, or troubleshooting technology equipment.
