Internship OpportunityNewport Mental Health (NMH) is a progressive high-energy organization that uses state of the art person-centered recovery approach to help individuals recover from mental illness and substance use disorders. NMH extends its trauma informed evidence-based services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. Our services vary from outreach, specialized programs, mental health, school-based therapy, substance use therapy, community-based therapy, and outpatient.The Marketing & Communications Intern will gain practical experience in storytelling, writing, content development, and event support while learning about behavioral health services, nonprofit communications strategy, and fundraising efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work that increases awareness of mental health and substance use services in Newport County.Main duties and responsibilities:Interview staff and gather information about programs, services, and outcomesAssist in the development of social media content, presentations, press releases, newsletters, and other communications materialsSupport fundraising and community engagement eventsConduct research to support storytelling and communicate organizational impactAssist with general communications, marketing, and administrative tasks as neededKnowledge, skills and abilities:Strong writing, storytelling, and verbal communication skillsInterest in behavioral health, public health, communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or related fieldsInitiative, professionalism, and strong attention to detailAbility to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlinesCultural humility and commitment to confidentialityProficiency with Microsoft Office and major social media platforms; familiarity with Canva is a plusLearning outcomes:Strengthen professional interviewing, writing, and communication skillsGain experience in nonprofit marketing, communications, and philanthropyLearn about behavioral health and substance use treatment systems and community-based care modelsDevelop understanding of nonprofit branding, outreach, and donor engagement strategiesOther duties:Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.Attending trainings and meetings as assigned.Adhere to safety policies including participation in fire/disaster drills.Education and experience:Enrolled in a university or college program (junior or senior level preferred) in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, public health, nonprofit management, or a related field
