Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse for a Labor & Delivery and Postpartum unit in Fort Defiance, Arizona. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive care to mothers and newborns throughout the perinatal period, from labor and delivery through postpartum recovery and newborn care.

The unit supports an average of 40 deliveries and 6 C-sections per month, emphasizing Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) principles, including rooming-in. The successful candidate will manage a diverse patient population, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, and may occasionally serve as a Charge Nurse after completing required training.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert nursing care to laboring mothers, including fetal monitoring, pain management, and labor progression assessment.
• Assist physicians during vaginal deliveries and C-sections, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
• Deliver comprehensive postpartum care, including assessment, pain management, wound care, and lactation support.
• Perform newborn assessments, provide routine care, and educate new parents on infant care and feeding, adhering to BFHI guidelines.
• Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and document patient care accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Potentially assume Charge Nurse responsibilities after completing facility-specific training.
• Float to other departments as qualified and needed, performing patient care or task-oriented duties.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of five (5) years of recent, acute care experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care within a healthcare setting.
