Spanish Medical Interpreter PRN

Job Summary Coordinates and delivers both interpretation (oral) and translation (written) services for individuals with limited English proficiency across all Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services. Schedule Part‑time/PRN, 0 hours per week. Flexibility and availability required. Essential Functions Interpret medical and general information with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes for patients, families, and staff, using appropriate communication methods according to the individual's developmental age and mental condition. Interpret complex medical information, demonstrating expert knowledge of medical terminology and the healthcare system. Act as a cultural mediator, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and superior intercultural communication skills. Render unbiased interpretation to ensure accurate exchange of information in the proper cultural context. Adhere to National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Healthcare Interpreters, demonstrating knowledge of HIPAA, TitleVI of the Civil Rights Act, TitleIII of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Section1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Manage time productively, displaying a proactive approach to the job. Respond to requests in a timely manner and provide staff with an estimated time of arrival for interpretation assignments. Refer staff to phone or video interpretation per guidelines. Use computer, software, and electronic tools for research, data entry, and other communication purposes within the work environment. Maintain accurate and complete records of all interpretation events. Ensure data across multiple platforms or sources is consistent and accurate. Translate written material into one or more languages, ensuring meaning, context, and localization are maintained. Complete assignments in a timely manner and with a high degree of accuracy. Location Logan Regional Hospital, Logan, Utah. Qualifications Required qualifications include completing a pre‑hire skills assessment; excellent oral and written command of both source and target language(s) at “Professional Proficiency” or Level3 on the ILR scale, including specialized healthcare terminology; ability to perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation with high accuracy; ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment; ability to prioritize and multi‑task; interpersonal verbal and written communication skills; flexibility and good judgement to work independently; and a certificate of completion from a 40‑hour Professional Medical Interpreter course. For candidates who do not meet the 40‑hour course requirement, consideration may be given if they hold an interpreting certification in a different field (e.g., court), have a college degree in translation or a working language, or have at least two years of experience as a professional interpreter. Preferred Qualifications Two years of experience working as an interpreter in healthcare settings. Bachelor’s Degree in Interpretation or Translation, Languages or Communications. National Certification as a Healthcare or Medical Interpreter from CCHI or NBCMI; in Utah, State Certified Medical Language Interpreter License by DOPL. Completion of a college‑level medical terminology course. Knowledge of EPIC. Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors; ability to assess customer needs; verbal communication and hearing; manual dexterity for manipulating complex supplies and equipment; frequent computer use for typing and accessing information.
