Assistant Store Manager

We will be hiring many new positions for this team and will start interviews now. The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks such as cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities. They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional high-level duties specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This description outlines the general nature of work performed by teammates in this role. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations can be made. Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service to each guest. Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise. Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs and desires. Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience. Utilize product knowledge and sales education, consistently sharing that knowledge with teammates. Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices. Maintain consistent personal sales and seek opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations using the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG). Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by store management. Provide legendary service across the store, including front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area. Know all exchange and return procedures and use them as showmanship opportunities. Fill out and use the SPG daily to accomplish goals. Meet or exceed performance standards for Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs. Explore ways to expand guest selection through inventory manager, advanced product search, iPad apps, etc. Build good guest relationships to develop client-based business. Lead by example with showmanship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness. Recognize and communicate guest levels with teammates. Ask business-driven, showmanship questions to manager, leaders, and teammates. Be coachable, welcoming feedback from manager to improve sales presentations. Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards whether or not the manager is present. Plan sales goals with store manager. Own the store’s sales performance (sales, average sale, business builders, denim). Show passion for product education and showmanship to create results. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Identify recruiting opportunities using jobs & careers cards, email referrals, and teammates recommend. Coach and create relationships through guest loyalty and preferred programs. Develop skills and lead, direct, motivate, and educate new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards. Maintain a positive floor culture and personal dress code. Participate effectively in daily setup, training, and performance tracking. Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by store management. Coach denim showmanship and fit cards to teammates and guests. Develop results in your department, balancing all DM actions. Track execution with weekly delegation worksheets. Engage guests with product. Communicate updates; remember guest names. Show merchandise effectively to both genders, benefiting team and guests. Work with store manager to set educational focus and delegate weekly implementation. Support business goals across all segments. Assist in recruitment of store staffing needs. Explain pay and Buckle benefits. Maintain contact list and add top talent consistently. Train using leadership playbook. Maintain accountability for characteristic pieces. Coach all non-sales positions with manager. Adjust to changing sales focuses. Identify and follow through on training needs. Own and influence product via zone ownership and daily assignments. Use new tools and videos for zone ownership knowledge. Review all four zones with manager. Ensure teammates follow visual standards and weekly checklist. Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations to manager. Conduct store tours. Keep sales floor stocked and freight displayed properly. Improve visual standards via performance tracker. Anticipate and act on product changes to improve visual results. Maintain visual standards in floor and backroom. Operations Work flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on store needs. Use planner, complete opening and closing checklists. Recognize and prevent security risks. Follow loss prevention guidelines and bag/purse checks. Execute and teach cash register procedures. Handle corporate office calls appropriately. Maintain positive attitude with guests and teammates during challenges. Adhere to policies on payments, returns, exchanges, and loss prevention. Naveigate and use all tools on the home page. Provide guidance and feedback to all non-sales positions. Complete all scheduled shifts and cover when needed. Maintain clean, organized retail space. Provide feedback to store manager on merchandise concerns. Communicate policy violations and concerns to store manager or district manager or HR confidentially. Apply Buckle’s code of ethics and policies. Assist with new hire paperwork per HR and legal policies. Plan weekly/monthly/yearly activities. Train others on opening/closing checklists. Handle markdowns, pulls, freight, vendor returns. Collaborate with corporate office for effective operation. Maintain inventory of supplies. Handle emergencies in manager’s absence per guidelines. Supervisory and Leadership Provide and receive feedback from peers and management. Support leadership and promote personal and store growth. Maintain professional relationships with teammates. Conduct daily interviews to support development. Resolve objections and problem-solve. Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge. Administer Buckle Commitment to Success. Travel and cover other stores as needed. Manage schedule changes professionally. Perform duties with high customer service and team spirit. Execute special projects and other responsibilities. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related retail experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
