Interim Middle School Principal Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 This opportunity is for an Interim Middle School Principal at Athol‑Royalston Middle School (Athol, Massachusetts). The school has approximately 420 students, and staffing includes four counselors, 35 teachers, and two assistant principals. Responsibilities Develop and communicate a clear vision of what the school should be, focusing on students and their individual needs. Articulate the vision to the school, parents, and community. Model important goals and behaviors to exemplify what is valued in the school. Demonstrate a commitment to academic goals for students and educators. Create a climate of high expectations characterized by a tone of respect for teachers, students, parents, and the community. Use data‑based decision‑making processes to support movement toward the vision. Maintain a visible presence throughout the school and visit classrooms daily. Lead and participate in professional development activities with teachers. Use resources to promote the best possible educational opportunities for students. Design and present the school budget to the superintendent after collaborating with teachers, staff, and the school council. Protect instructional time by maintaining order and discipline, minimizing disruption. Assign staff and motivate them through clear expectations, feedback, and encouragement for innovation. Stay current in pedagogical trends and instructional materials to support teachers. Create and submit the School Improvement Plan to the school committee for approval. Use the evaluation process to promote professional growth among teachers, staff, and other administrators. Work with teachers to use student assessment data to plan daily instruction that meets individual student needs. Hire needed personnel and administer School Committee policy. Collaborate with custodial staff and the Director of Facilities to ensure building maintenance. Participate in administrative team initiatives and other district activities. Attend all DILT and principal's meetings. Hold bi‑weekly BILT meetings in the building, creating an agenda that aligns with district ILT purpose. Communicate school matters to appropriate audiences. Keep the Superintendent informed of all activities related to teaching, learning, parent engagement, major discipline, and emergencies. Submit reports to the Superintendent and School Committee as requested. Maintain communication with the community via newsletters, parent conferences, and community events. Involve teachers in data analysis of assessments and instructional planning. Plan and facilitate faculty meetings and School Council meetings. Participate in PTG meetings. Resource and service personnel functioning within the school. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Superintendent. Job Requirements Citizenship, residency, or work visa is required.
