DESCRIPTION Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager of Grounds, the Groundskeeper I work includes semi-skilled manual work, with general, technical, and administrative supervision. Knowledge of grading techniques, trimming, planting and methods of fertilizing.Ability to maintain lawns, playing fields, trees, and other grounds for the school system.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**Physical Requirements** Ability to pick up, carry and handle tools, materials, and equipment of 80 to 100 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, kneel, climb use arm, and hand movements and reach above shoulders for long periods of time.Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to respond to emergency calls, 24 hours a day/7 days a weekThe person selected for this position must meet all requirements of the physical examination administered by a medical service selected by the Howard County Department of Education. Interviews will be limited to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, have experience which most closely matches the position qualifications and the needs of the school system. **Compensation** This is a 12-month per year position in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) employee bargaining unit. This position is Grade IV on the Audio Visual/ Grounds/ Maintenance/ Warehouse salary scale. Actual placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the HCPSS and the AFSCME Master Agreement which considers relevant prior experience.
