Intellectual Property Senior Counsel II

Guardant Health seeks an experienced IP counsel to build and manage its patent portfolio in cancer diagnostics and precision oncology. The role combines legal expertise with technical knowledge of genomic sequencing to develop and execute global IP strategy while advising internal teams on patent matters.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage global patent portfolio through prosecution, strategic patenting identification, and invention evaluation
• Collaborate with IP team to develop and advise on global patent and IP strategy
• Conduct infringement and validity analyses and assess risk mitigation approaches
• Counsel and educate scientists and employees on patent matters and IP protection strategies
• Coordinate with outside counsel and stakeholders to provide strategic IP guidance for research and product development

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate from accredited law school; USPTO registration and state bar membership required
• 7+ years patent prosecution experience at law firm or in-house position
• Advanced degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, cancer genomics, genetics, or statistics preferred
• Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications for NGS-based diagnostic assays and genomic data analysis methods
• Knowledge of NGS library preparation techniques: targeted sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, methylation sequencing, RNA-seq
• Understanding of cancer genomics algorithms and tools such as sequence alignment and variant calling
• Strong communication, project management, and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally with scientists and teams

Compensation: $170,730 - $234,765 base (primary location: Remote-USA-CA)
