Registered Nurse II (260002R6) – Job Description The Department of Developmental Services seeks an enthusiastic, compassionate Registered Nurse II (RN II) to provide nursing care and medical oversight to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who may exhibit challenging behaviors. The RN II will be the clinical advocate and healthcare consultant for the respite program, ensuring high‑quality service consistent with each resident’s needs. Duties and Responsibilities Provide medical oversight of a respite program and supervise a caseload of residents. Deliver nursing care, including assessment, intervention, monitoring of behavioral and health needs, and adjusting care plans based on outcomes. Safeguard controlled substances in accordance with policies to prevent tampering or diversion. Complete daily reports and document incidents that occur during a shift. Administer and supervise treatments, record health care data, and evaluate care in collaboration with other providers. Advocate for residents and demonstrate respect and positive regard for individuals with developmental disabilities. Participate in preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care activities. Develop and implement health‑care plans in agreement with Primary Care Provider orders, integrating behavioral and medical needs. Serve on the interdisciplinary Individual Service Plan (ISP) team, providing required assessments, plans, and documentation. Establish and maintain communication with staff, health‑care providers, and families/guardians. Evaluate the residential environment and recommend improvements to promote health, safety, and psychosocial development. Schedule and/or attend medical appointments; act as liaison for hospitalized residents and their families. Provide clinical supervision and evaluation of LPN staff; develop nursing caseload assignments with the Health Care Coordinator. Maintain Medication Administration Program (MAP) trainer certification and train staff to ensure regulatory compliance. Manage proper use and maintenance of nursing supplies and equipment. Identify and refer clinical and administrative issues that impact residents’ health care to appropriate supervisors. Participate in RN/LPN interview processes and offer health‑related training to staff and families. Engage in Survey & Certification compliance and serve as a member of various teams, e.g., Clinical Team. Utilize the Commonwealth's Home and Community Services Information System (HCSIS) and HUB; basic PC‑based systems skills required. Required Qualifications Registered Nurse in Massachusetts with at least one year of full‑time nursing experience in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility. Supervisory experience in a clinical capacity. Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and act swiftly in stressful or emergency situations. Strong communication skills and competence in conflict resolution. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information with discretion. Strong written and verbal communication; ability to give clear oral instructions. Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, and techniques. Preferred Qualifications Advanced supervisory experience in a clinical setting. Excellent communication and conflict‑resolution skills. Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and confidentiality. Strong technical skills with PC‑based systems and software. Knowledge of safety practices, medical terminology, and standard nursing procedures. Agency Requirements Current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Schedule Information Full‑time – 40 hours per week. 2nd Shift: 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. (one late‑night shift per week: 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.). Days off: Saturday and Sunday. On‑call duties and mandatory overtime may be required during program emergencies. The position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" role in the DDS Emergency Plan. Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $86,385.78 – $144,149.72 yearly (dependent on experience and qualifications). Employees receive bi‑weekly pay with direct deposit.
