Physician-Hospice/Palliative Care

Position Overview Banner University Medical Group and the Division of General Internal Medicine, Palliative Medicine, and Geriatrics are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to join our growing academic palliative care program in Tucson, Arizona. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team model, working closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and social workers and collaborating with chaplains, case managers, community hospice, and other staff. The role is primarily focused on inpatient palliative care consultation at Banner University Medical Center Tucson and South Campuses, providing high‑quality palliative care for adult patients with serious illness. This position includes a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona. The physician will teach medical students, residents, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows, participate in interdisciplinary education and rounds, contribute to hospital‑based quality improvement initiatives, and help grow palliative care across the academic health system and broader community. Responsibilities Provide inpatient palliative care consultation across multiple specialties, including Neurology, Medical, Cardiac, Surgical ICUs, Transplant, Oncology, and Advanced Heart Failure. Collaborate with outpatient clinics and community resources to support patients with serious illness. Engage in teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows. Participate in interdisciplinary education, rounds, and quality improvement initiatives. Contribute to program development, curriculum building, and scholarly activities. Qualifications Board eligible or board certified in Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Strong knowledge of hospice care, serious illness care, and community resources. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team. Commitment to teaching and mentoring in an academic medical environment. Interest in quality improvement, program development, curriculum development, or scholarly activity encouraged. Experience is preferred but open to new graduates from fellowship. Schedule Details Monday – Friday; no weekends and no call. Locations Primary Location: Banner University Medical Center Tucson – 1625 N.
