Pharmacist - Licensed Pharmacy Intern PRN

The Pharmacy Intern assists the pharmacist and technicians in various tasks throughout the pharmacy department. Under the supervision of designated supervisors, the intern is responsible for the preparation and distribution of medications and information throughout the hospital. The role promotes quality patient care through proper storage, preparation, dispensing, and recommendations for administration of medications and intravenous solutions. Medication Preparation Procure, receive, prepare, package, distribute, and dispose of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Prepare unit dose, compound oral, and intravenous medications. Repackage medications in unit dosage forms and restock medications and other supplies in patient care areas or clinics. Follow appropriate ordering procedures. Medication Delivery Ensure product verification by the appropriate pharmacy professional. Facilitate the distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Prioritization and Triaging Answer phone calls and receive messages to triage requests appropriately. Implement time management and prioritization of tasks to ensure optimum patient care. Quality Assurance Conduct regular quality assurance inspections or audits focused on TJC and LBOP requirements. Perform product and equipment examinations regarding integrity and expiration. Complete logs for refrigerator and freezer temperature monitoring and required cleaning. Training and Education Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Complete all required training, competency assessments, and attend educational in‑services as appropriate. Experience and Qualifications Previous hospital experience as a pharmacy student or intern preferred. Licenses and Certifications Pharmacy Intern Licensure through the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
