General Neurologist / Clinical Research Neurologist Principal Investigator Full-Time Physician Opportunity Abington Neurological Associates (ANA) | Suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Department Neurology / Clinical Research Practice Setting Established private neurology practice with outpatient care, inpatient hospital consultation coverage, and an active clinical research program Employment Type Full-Time Role Focus Comprehensive adult neurology care combined with Principal Investigator leadership for clinical trials Position Summary Abington Neurological Associates (ANA), a large, well-established private neurology practice in Abington, Pennsylvania, is seeking a compassionate, patient-focused, and forward-thinking Neurologist to join the practice in a combined clinical and research leadership role. The physician will provide comprehensive adult neurological care while also serving as Principal Investigator for assigned clinical trials and helping lead the continued growth of ANA’s Clinical Research Department. This position is designed for a physician who values both direct patient care and the advancement of neurological treatment through research. The successful candidate will maintain a broad general neurology practice, participate in inpatient neurological consultations and shared hospital call coverage, and provide medical and scientific oversight for clinical trials from study start-up through close-out. The role also offers the opportunity to develop a subspecialty focus based on the physician’s training, interests, patient demand, and practice needs. Participate in partnership consideration and potential academic, teaching, or research opportunities based on interest, availability, and practice needs. Clinical Neurology Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and longitudinally manage adult patients with a broad spectrum of neurological disorders. Provide new-patient consultations, follow-up care, and evidence-based treatment planning in the outpatient setting. Participate in inpatient hospital neurological consultations and shared call coverage as assigned by the practice. Perform or supervise specialized neurological procedures when credentialed and appropriately trained, including procedures such as botulinum toxin injections or device programming. Interpret neurological diagnostic studies within the physician’s scope of training and privileges, including EEG, EMG/NCS, and other relevant studies as applicable. Develop and grow a subspecialty clinical focus aligned with physician expertise, patient demand, and practice priorities. Collaborate with primary care physicians, neurosurgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation professionals, therapists, advanced practice providers, and other specialists. Educate patients and families regarding neurological diagnoses, treatment options, medications, prognosis, and follow-up needs. Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and support compliant coding and billing practices. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, peer collaboration, and other clinical initiatives of the practice. Clinical Research / Principal Investigator Responsibilities Study Oversight & Leadership Serve as Principal Investigator for assigned clinical trials and provide medical and scientific leadership for all aspects of study conduct. Ensure studies are conducted in accordance with applicable FDA regulations, ICH-GCP guidelines, IRB requirements, sponsor protocols, and site procedures. Maintain ultimate physician responsibility for participant safety, protocol compliance, and study integrity. Supervise sub-investigators and research staff involved in clinical trial activities. Patient Safety & Clinical Oversight Evaluate study participants for eligibility and confirm that inclusion and exclusion criteria are appropriately applied. Oversee informed consent discussions and support ethical, informed enrollment of research participants. Monitor participant safety, adverse events (AEs), and serious adverse events (SAEs), and provide medical judgment throughout the study. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of safety events to sponsors, IRBs, and regulatory authorities as required. Regulatory, Compliance & Data Integrity Ensure regulatory documentation is complete, accurate, current, and audit-ready, including Investigator Site Files and essential documents. Participate in sponsor monitoring visits, audits, inspections, and corrective and preventive action activities as required. Ensure protocol adherence and timely response to deviations, findings, queries, and corrective actions. Review and approve case report forms, source documentation, and study data requiring investigator review or attestation. Promote accurate, complete, and timely data capture while maintaining participant confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Collaboration, Business Development & Operations Serve as a primary medical liaison among sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), IRBs, and site research staff. Participate in investigator meetings, sponsor communications, feasibility assessments, and site selection activities. Support recruitment strategies and enrollment goals while maintaining appropriate clinical and ethical standards. Provide oversight of research team training, delegation, performance, and protocol-specific competency. Contribute to protocol development, study design, and research program expansion when applicable. Promote a culture of compliance, ethics, accountability, scientific rigor, and clinical excellence across the Research Department. Required Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. Successful completion of an ACGME- or AOA-accredited Neurology residency program. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurology. Eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Eligible for hospital medical staff appointment and clinical privileges as required by the position. Eligible to enroll and remain in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer networks as required. DEA registration, if required for assigned clinical or research responsibilities. Strong clinical judgment, professionalism, leadership, interpersonal communication, and patient-centered care skills. Preferred Qualifications Two to five years of clinical research experience preferred. Prior experience as a Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator strongly preferred. Experience with FDA-regulated Phase II–IV clinical trials preferred. Strong working knowledge of ICH-GCP principles, research ethics, regulatory requirements, and investigator responsibilities. Fellowship training or demonstrated clinical interest in a neurology subspecialty is preferred but not required. Experience in both outpatient neurology and inpatient consultation services is desirable. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clinical trials, competing priorities, and interdisciplinary teams. Meet or exceed study enrollment goals while preserving appropriate patient selection and ethical recruitment standards. Maintain high data quality, timely investigator review, and minimal avoidable protocol deviations. Maintain strong, professional relationships with sponsors, CROs, IRBs, monitors, and research partners. Provide timely medical oversight, safety review, documentation, and decision-making across assigned studies. Compensation and Benefits Competitive base salary with productivity-based incentive opportunities. Partnership Track Physicians are eligible for partnership consideration after thirty-six (36) months from the effective start date, or after completion of thirty-six (36) months of full-time employment while receiving full compensation, whichever period is longer. Partnership is subject to the terms, qualifications, approvals, and conditions established by the practice. The partnership track is intended to provide a defined opportunity for long-term professional growth, leadership, and participation in the future of the practice. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to conduct neurological and protocol-required physical examinations and other physician assessments. Ability to review electronic medical records, research platforms, source documents, and regulatory documentation for extended periods. Ability to participate in on-site clinical care, hospital consultation responsibilities, research visits, and study oversight activities. Occasional attendance at investigator meetings, sponsor meetings, professional conferences, or other research-related events may be required. Clinical and research activities must comply with applicable federal and Pennsylvania laws, FDA requirements, ICH-GCP principles, IRB requirements, payer requirements, hospital medical staff standards, HIPAA, sponsor protocols, ANA policies, and accepted standards of neurological care and clinical research practice.
