CustodianPerform environmental service tasks, cleaning school buildings and grounds and minor repairs such as table, desk, and chair repair. Support services for day and evening activities in the school. Assist in providing a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place for students, staff, and the public.Education Required: High School Diploma / GEDEducation Preferred: One-year vocational certificate: Custodial/HousekeepingSkills Required: Communication skills HousekeepingSkills Preferred: TeamworkExperience Required: HousekeepingExperience Preferred: Housekeeping, school-related custodialMaintains the cleanliness of the building and grounds, including assigned areas, sidewalks, play areas, and parking lots.Daily and scheduled housekeeping duties include cleaning restrooms, classrooms, offices, cafeteria, hallways, locker rooms, gymnasiums, and all other areas required in the building.Use the appropriate method of cleaning floor surfaces: vacuum, auto-scrub, dust mop, or wet mop to keep all floors clean daily.Comply with district and building procedures for disposal or storage of trash, recyclables, or hazardous waste.Assist district maintenance personnel in maintaining the operation of the facility.Communicate with the lead custodian, Building Principal, and staff to establish cleaning priorities and building needs.Report major repair needs to the lead custodian and Buildings and Grounds Department.Assist the maintenance department with snow removal, sanding, and keeping steps and sidewalks clear of snow and ice build-up.Moves furniture or equipment within the buildings as required or directed.Perform duties associated with the school's regular operation and as directed by the Director of Facilities or the Building Principal.Cleaning: Scrub and sanitize sinks, countertops, door handles, faucets, toilet flush handles, soap and paper dispensers. Clean and sanitize chrome fixtures, toilets, urinals, toilet partitions, mirrors, window ledges, and restroom floors. Dust mop, wet mop, auto-scrub hallways, gymnasiums, locker rooms, classrooms, cafeterias, offices, and all areas required. Perform summer cleaning, including deep cleaning, refinishing of floors, cleaning of carpets, dusting, washing of windows, washing of walls, etc.Material Handling: Lifting and moving of desks, chairs, furniture, cafeteria tables, garbage, custodial supplies, etc., sometimes over 60 lbs. Remove trash and recyclables from classrooms, offices, and cafeterias and dispose of them in a dumpster. Restock toilet paper, paper towels, and soap dispensers as needed and maintain custodial closet inventories. Unload trucks and deliver received materials to appropriate areas. Receive, distribute, or store curriculum materials such as copy paper, books, teaching supplies, etc., as directed by the building principal.Building/Grounds Maintenance: Sweep stairs and sidewalks at entrances to the building. Pick up trash in parking, play areas, athletic fields, sidewalks, stairs, and building yards. Inspect and report playground equipment, fences, trees and scrubs, and the exterior of the building for necessary repairs. Shovel or sweep snow and ice to keep access to the building free and clear of slippery walkways.Additional Tasks: Provide set up, tear down, and clean up for events. Ensure the building is secured, lights are turned off, and heating and alarm systems are operational in the evening. Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Facilities Director and the Building Principal.
