PROCUREMENT SPECIALIST

Location: Columbia, SC | Type: Full Time | Hours: 37.5 hrs weekly, Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, flexible schedule as needed. Posting Number: STA00517PO26 | Job Family: Procurement and Inventory Control | Budget: $48,726 – $70,653 | Application Deadline: August 21, 2026 Job Summary Under limited supervision and in accordance with state and university procurement policies, performs purchasing activities to support departmental needs, primarily utilizing purchase orders and small purchase methods. Responsibilities Process purchase transactions ranging from routine small purchases with simple competition to complex acquisitions requiring detailed specifications and evaluation. Obtain and evaluate quotes, issue purchase orders, and ensure compliance with applicable procurement policies and procedures. Support vendor communication, basic negotiations, and documentation of sourcing decisions. Assist with public notice requirements and other mandatory procurement documentation. Perform administrative support functions, including correspondence routing, data tracking, and report preparation. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and experience. Familiarity with or ability to learn the SC Consolidated Procurement Code as it relates to routine purchasing activities. Basic knowledge of procurement processes, including quote solicitation and purchase order issuance. Strong organizational, analytical, and written communication skills. Proficiency with personal computers and financial/procurement systems. Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to day‑to‑day transactions. Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external vendors.
