Behavioral Health Clinician HIV-LCSW/LMFT

Full Time • 100% • Los Angeles, CA, US Salary Range: $104,445.00 – $118,170.00 annually. Position Purpose This licensed position (LCSW or LMFT) provides high-quality behavioral health services to underserved individuals living with HIV. The clinician will conduct assessments, provide crisis intervention, deliver short- and long-term counseling, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support positive health outcomes. Principal Responsibilities Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments to identify non-medical needs affecting HIV medical care utilization. Work with an HIV multidisciplinary team to ensure clinical treatment goals and behavioral health needs are met through case conferences, chronic disease management meetings, and staff consultations. Conduct functional and strengths-based assessments and comprehensive diagnoses for mental health, substance use, trauma, and psychosocial needs. Deliver patient education, counseling, and brief interventions to improve HIV knowledge and reduce transmission risk. Develop care plans coordinated with medical and psychosocial services to address social, emotional, and practical needs. Provide in-person and remote (HIPAA‑compliant) psychotherapy, counseling, and psychoeducation using individual, family, and group modalities. Use evidence-based interventions (e.g., DBT, CBT, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing) to support coping, distress tolerance, and resource access. Utilize short-term and intensive longer-term interventions approved by funding sources to target trauma, mental health symptoms, and substance use. Consult with primary care providers to integrate behavioral health needs into treatment plans. Coordinate care with ECM Case Management staff, providing referrals and reducing barriers to care. Attend weekly case conferences and multidisciplinary team meetings to facilitate high-quality care and problem solving. Participate in community meetings related to patient needs. Provide after‑hours emergency psychiatric support as assigned. Offer phone consultation as needed. Complete all charting, assessments, progress notes, care plans, and billing documentation according to JWCH standards; close encounters by the end of each shift. Assist with provider education on integrated behavioral and primary care services, emphasizing HIV care. Participate in behavioral health quality assurance and improvement activities per the CQI Plan. When supervising ASWs, comply with BBS requirements and ensure timely encounter closure. Maintain a full patient panel and average 7.0 encounters per 8‑hour shift after six months of employment. Adhere to organization safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness. Participate in annual AIDET training and apply the framework to patient and team interactions. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Master’s degree in social work, social welfare, or psychology from an accredited institution. LCSW or LMFT with an active California BBS license. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with HIV‑positive patients or equivalent. Knowledge of STDs, HIV, hepatitis, and/or tuberculosis within the last five (5) years. Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues, treatment, and related sexual risks. Strong desire and documented experience working with low‑income underserved populations, especially HIV patients. Experience or knowledge in human, social, and/or behavioral health services for underserved individuals. Understanding of trauma‑informed and person‑centered care, and the impact of behavioral and medical conditions on this population. Familiarity with evidence‑based treatments (DBT, CBT, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing). Knowledge of mental health emergency procedures (5150, CPS reporting, APS reporting, Tarasoff reporting). Experience with substance abuse disorders (preferred). Valid California driver’s license and current auto insurance. Proficiency with EMR systems and NextGen software. Experience working in a medical setting (preferred).
