Sr. Accountant

Our Richmond VA based mechanical/construction client is seeking a Senior Accountant on a temp basis to own the company’s month-end close, payroll, cash flow, and financial reporting. This is a highly visible, hands‑on role that partners directly with General Management and Service leadership and plays a key role in operational and financial decision‑making. Key Responsibilities Own the full month-end close process, including bank reconciliations, accruals, and credit cards. Prepare accurate, timely financial statements and maintain audit-ready records. Process payroll and manage related accounting activities. Monitor cash flow by preparing a basic weekly cash forecast report Review AP for accuracy and process payments Review and post invoice billings Required Qualifications 4-6 years of accounting experience preferred; 2–4 years may be considered for a strong candidate. Proven experience owning the complete month-end close proces Strong QuickBooks and payroll experience. Experience preparing month-end close workpapers. Strong communication skills with non-financial leaders. Experience in mechanical/HVAC service, construction, or another operational environment strongly preferred. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an accounting professional who takes ownership of financial performance rather than simply processing transactions. They are proactive, organized, accountable, comfortable working directly with leadership, and able to explain financial processes and translate financial data into business decisions. Not a Fit Bookkeepers or transactional AP/AR processors. Candidates who have not owned a month-end close. Purely corporate or highly siloed accounting backgrounds.
