Job Purpose The role holder will be responsible for managing National Grid's New York State Department of Public Service (NYSDPS) Article VII and Article VIII environmental licensing and permitting activity for large scale electric and gas projects to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements. This includes ensuring applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements are established, communicated and implemented for high value, complex activities, including project initiation, design and construction. Provide overall support to the department and project teams to ensure timely preparation of acceptable environmental license and permit application material and completion of implementation and compliance activities. Provide technical support for managing data and documents pertinent to stakeholder communication, project schedules, environmental issues, studies and expenditures. Successfully manage project permitting. Key Accountabilities Effectively communicate with peers and regulators including the ability to communicate with technical and nontechnical audiences. Effective problem-solving skills with ability to obtain, research and analyze data; draw inferences; and make recommendations to provide guidance to the project teams. Ability to establish daily work priorities, plan assignments, and organize work. Self-motivated and proactive in achieving goals without being asked and performing the job with moderate guidance. Proficient in Microsoft applications, GIS and/or other mapping programs. Work independently with guidance in only the most complex situations. Review electric, gas and plant facility capital improvement projects and facility modifications to evaluate potential impacts on the environment and the need for regulatory permits and/or authorizations. Oversee National Grid's field operations, including the management and documentation of site visits, to monitor and facilitate compliance with applicable local, state, federal and company requirements. Develop and maintain close working relationships with Operations, Engineering, Construction and other personnel to share best practices and communicate business decisions. Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current and proposed federal, state and local regulations (including but not limited to: rare, threatened and endangered species; streams; wetlands; and stormwater) and National Grid's Environmental Procedures to ensure National Grid is compliant with environmental legislation and regulations. Train and motivate engineering and specific corporate-based personnel to comply with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, and National Grid's Environmental Procedures. This includes providing technical guidance, support and coaching to share knowledge and develop technical understanding. Qualifications Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required A Bachelors degree in Environmental Engineering/Science, Civil Engineering, Natural Resources, Forestry, Biology, or a relevant scientific discipline and/or relevant utility industry experience. Experience with siting of electric and gas transmission projects under NYSDPS Article VII, Article VIII, 94-C or Article 10. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry practice, current industry trends, standards and legislation. 7+ years related environmental experience. Extensive and significant knowledge of environmental licensing and permitting regulatory requirements. More Information Why Join National Grid? Salary $95,000 - $111,000 a year National Grid will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.
