The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group’s name means **“The People”** in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.

As a Full-Time Youth Mentor Program Assistant at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a vital role in the development and coordination of the Youth Mentor Program under the guidance of the Youth Mentor. Your responsibilities will include supporting daily operations, such as managing phone communications, data entry, and processing program paperwork. You'll assist with planning and implementing engaging activities for youth groups, attending meetings and events to foster a sense of community.

Additionally, you will be involved in research focused on youth outreach, prevention, and civic engagement, while also collaborating with other departments to enhance youth involvement. Your efforts will contribute to effective community outreach aimed at promoting, recruiting, and retaining youth in various programs. This position offers the opportunity to be an integral part of positive youth development while acquiring valuable experience in program coordination and community service.

To thrive as a Full-Time Youth Mentor Program Assistant at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED, with preference given to those with prior experience in youth programming. A willingness to actively participate in program meetings, classes, activities, and conferences is essential. As a positive role model for youth, you will support and encourage young leaders within the community. Strong communication skills are necessary to prepare written reports and deliver presentations to diverse audiences. Proficiency in operating a personal computer and various software programs is crucial, including audio manipulation, photo editing (Photoshop, Publisher, Adobe), and social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

Experience with photo documentation and maintaining computer records will enhance your effectiveness in this role. Additionally, a valid driver’s license, ability to be bonded, and passing a security background check and drug test are required for employment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Would prefer someone with experience working with youth and youth programming.
• Must be willing to attend program meetings, classes, activities and conferences.
• Must be a positive role model for youth and support the youth as leaders in their community.
• Must be willing to prepare written reports and making presentations to various audiences.
• Must have the ability to operate a personal computer with various programs.
• Must be proficient in audio manipulation software.
• Experience with social media platforms. (i.e. Facebook, You Tube, Instagram)
• Must be proficient in Photo Shop, Publisher, Adobe related software.
• Must have experience in photo documentation.
• Must have experience in maintaining computer records and data.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license able to be bonded.
• Must pass a security background check and drug test.
